Rice Bran or Other Attractants

Rice Bran or Other Attractants - 08/16/17 05:52 PM

Guys,

I'm hunting in a pretty high concentration of hunters and feeders. I have just bought two 600# feeders for corn and have a 300# feeder I'd like to use at one of my locations to throw something that's an attractant that won't break the bank. Next year I'm going to use it to throw protein but for now I simply want to give myself a better opportunity to get a decent buck.

Thanks

don't put rice bran in the feeder as it will gum it up pretty good. unless you sprinkle it in there with the corn, but even then it can gum things up and you end up with a nonfunctional feeder that needs cleaned out.

I recommend placing rice bran on the ground in piles. If you are going to use it, that's the way to use it.

You can also use corn and roasted soy beans, that is a great food deer love in my experience and once they are on it they have been reported to bypass other feeders to hit that one.

bottom line with attractants, they will draw deer in if there are not many other feeders around they are patterned to, but they aren't going to steal many deer away from other feeders. The deer will have a pattern of going from one feeder to the next, so don't get too crazy in the amount you spend on attractants.

Though many have tried, no one has yet come up with some sort of feeder system that works with rice bran. It will pack and jam in any system other than ground piles.

Where would you buy roasted soy beans in South Texas?

Are the Rice Bran Pellets any good? Atwoods has 40# bags for $6.99. Just curious as it's so much cheaper than protein.

You're gonna have a hard time feeding protein from a spin feeder. I tried it twice and it gums up the spinner as soon as it gets any moisture and just clogs it up.

My Dad used to just pour rice bran on the ground on a stump or something and the deer would tear it up.
