9 Hogs Down with Pig_Popper

9 Hogs Down with Pig_Popper - 05/12/18 11:15 PM

Another successful hunt down in Bosque County, at least for hogs. We worked at calling coyotes for the first hour with no luck, but by the time we got down to the oats field, there was a hog. After that, the next 5 hours were a continuous stream of spotting, stalking shooting, analyzing and repeating. Finally, a bit before 3:00 am, we made it back to the central point where our unused chairs were stands, did a final scan showing we were clear, and went white light in hopes of not seeing another hog. Pig_Popper did an excellent on our situational awareness, spotting the next hog(s) while I was still finishing up with the previous hog. Had one of us been hunting solo, we likely would not have found many of the hogs as the oats are getting so high.

Here are some photos and scale measured weights of the recovered bullets:

Sierra Pro Hunter - handloads (my ammo):

Speer TNT - factory ammo (DNS):

The Hunt:

The hogs are ravaging this field, hopefully the Land Owner can harvest it soon, the action was non-stop!

I don't know how much we walked but since we had two in the field I felt comfortable enough to leave the rifle/tripod near the vicinity of the area and walk on foot in search of downed hogs. I think we learned a better technique to get this done as the hunt progressed and we'll have to record that on the next run.

Your 275 lb hog submarined immediately when you delivered the perfect headshot - I think that's my favorite scene of your video presentation.

Thanks again for the invite!

SPEER 90 Grain TNT Bullet

What powder are you using to get 28,000 fps? I need some of that.

My only problem seems to be the bullet hitting the target before I squeeze the trigger
