First sounder with the thermal/shotgun combo

First sounder with the thermal/shotgun combo - 02/11/18 02:02 PM

This is the first time I encountered a sounder with my thermal shotgun combo. All ive been seeing are lone boars or sows. Engaging targets was way more difficult with a pump shotgun than a semi auto rifle or even a bolt action. Initially I only had my side window on the blind open and when the last hog came running out into the open from my right to left I couldn't engage. I had to open the front window and hold it open with my left hand while aiming and shooting with my right hand. Then I had to hold the window open with my head while I loaded another shell LOL. Next time ill have both windows open when im ready to start shooting. Found 3 hogs but only recovered 2 the 3rd was in thick brush and would have been a pain. They are all coyote food anyways. Next time im gonna try and be a little more organized and prepared. Ill have the side and front window open and a couple shells on the window seal for easy access. Still pretty happy to have got 3.

Nicely done. Can you hunt that area with an extended magazine tube, or are you restricted to just three rounds? Could be a cheap way to add more capacity?

I could but im using a 45 yr old 870 Wingmaster lol. I could take the plug out and get another round in for sure. Just didn't want to mess with it. Really wish I could just use my 6.8 on Ft Hood and it would be way more efficient.

Oh..the sound of jacking another round on a pump shotgun! That adds a challenge especially in a blind.

Too bad you can't use something like a .458 SOCOM. I guess if you really wanted more firepower you could get a SAIGA Autoloader. As it is you're still putting the hurt on the hogs.

Keep After 'Em!
