Small Sow, Big Blood Trail That Faded Quickly

Small Sow, Big Blood Trail That Faded Quickly - 02/06/18 08:35 PM

I have noticed that the size of pigs at Elk Springs Ranch seems to be declining. I would like to believe all of the adults are gone, but I doubt that is the case, though I think most may be gone. Either way, they all need to be killed off before they can reproduce again.

Saw this small sounder of juvenile delinquent hogs and waited with the hopes of seeing an adult, but time ran out before I was about out of shot opportunities, so I went ahead and dropped one while I still could.

The shot blasted out the heart and left a significant blood trail that quickly cooled and all but faded from view inside of 1 minute.

Nod to Pig_Popper as I was hunting the same spot he hunted last week with just about the exact same result.

Those pigs just will not come into the clearing, surprising in that A) the feeder is there and B) the hunting pressure is equal while they are in the woods or in clearings...

Nice shot and video, it sure is a pretty place to hunt.

I am, but I am afraid it isn't enough. I need to get to these little ones before they get much larger...

I wish I could do this on more properties as there are times when such diagrams really help to explain what is going on, but most landowners don't want their information made public and I certainly respect that concern. Elk Springs Ranch is a commercial hunting operation and are fine with their information being public.

It's difficult to believe that anyone can win the war on hogs, but you're at least putting a dent in the population there. Who knows, you may get the upper hand yet!

Keep After 'Em!

It's too late now. I think they are born pregnant.

DNS - Is there a distance at which they stop all running off when they hear the suppressed shot?
