Does anyone or has anyone used an infrared laser with nvgs to hog hunt? If yes how did you like it?

I have tried it. Apparently my laser was a bit too powerful and when it would hit the hair on the hog, I would get "bloom" such that my dot became several square inches in size.

I have hunted with folks who use it and they seem slower to shoot than with using their night vision sight. They worry more about watching the dot than steadying the gun, trying to steady the dot more than steadying the gun, is about the only way I can describe it.

It can certainly work, but animals also will notice the IR laser when shined at them. They won't notice the dot which they can't see, but the laser itself which will glow and appear bright to them.

What DNS said...

I tried it with an xSight I, didn't care for it and it's kind of redundant to look through a sight for a laser pointer, when the cross-hair from the scope is already there. Where I have seen some people use it is in conjunction with a good helmet mounted NV monocular like a PVS-14. The cost to buy one of those is about what an entry thermal is now.

I have seen an LPL-30 used effectively with nvg's. Regardless, it isn't close to comparable with thermal as a hunting tool.

Works very well but has drawbacks. Leading a running pig is tougher w laser a foot in front of nose. Just difficult to get used to mentally. Smoke from burnt powder clouds vision after first shot. Not as bad with decent breeze .
