Slow Start for 2018...Hogs Down

This was my third time out for 2018, but my first hunt of the new year with my buddy Dave. He brought along, Eric, one of his friends. One coyote and 3 hogs down. We saw hogs 2 other times during the night, always way the hell across large, rolling fields such that by the time we got to where the hogs were, we had been out of sight of them for an extended period of time and they ended up disappearing on us. Still, we had a good time, weren't too cold (for a change) and we were successful.

I’ve had a slow start as well. Have shot 3 hogs and recovered 1. It will get better.

At least you are seeing them regularly. I have been really surprised. In past years, cold periods like this have been really good for my hunting. This time around, maybe not so much.

I noticed them moving less over the past couple of weeks. We had some really cold nights for this area. Generally, I think they move better in the cooler months, but wondered when it got/gets "bitter" cold if they don't just hang tight for warmth. I know I have seem them in thick, low spots piled on each other. Regardless, they have been harder to find.

I've been helping my son move and get his his new house ready since middle of December.
I haven't even started my 2018 season yet.

Hoping to take him for his first night time hog hunt shortly to begin the 18 season.
