Making Sure They're Dead - Quality Assurance

Making Sure They're Dead - Quality Assurance - 12/12/17 04:58 PM

hunted at Elk Springs Ranch. Very little of this property is level and I decided to do a stalk across the property in hopes of surprising some hogs. A goodly distance from where I started and I spied a lone hog under a feeder and got my shot. Being hot, tired, and lazy...and realizing the truck was way back where I parked it...I figured it was worth an extra shot into the downed hog to make sure it remained where it was. No need to walk over to it and see that it was dead up close, LOL. Sure enough, when I returned with the truck, it had not moved.

You make 185 yards look like 50 yards - nicely done

Yeah, I like to make certain a dead hog is really dead.
Then, I usually give it a voice command like "STAY!" while I go retrieve whatever I need to move or dismember it.

Nice work, great video as usual!

Yeah, I wasn't going to walk all that way back to the truck only to return and find the hog had gotten up and run away on me, LOL.

Be careful out there, those stealthy black panthers WILL pack them off if you look away.... bolt

All BS aside, another nice one DNS.

Vern1, you are funnier than you know! The local high school mascot is the panther and is depicted as black. The guy that sometimes day hunts for hogs at Elk Springs Ranch was a Saint Jo Panther. roflmao

Yeah, it is not unusual to have animals watching me when I am trying to shoot hogs. That they see me is fine, so long as they are not alarmed. I don't know if she could see me or not, or simply heard the crunching of leaves and gravel under my feet. Things are really dry right now and leaves are on the ground. Very little is able to sneak around the woods at night, silently. I try to walk slow, like the deer do, so that my pace does not give away that I am human. It seems to help and I don't spook animals as much.

I had a strange one last week. Shot a pretty good sized sow at night and watched her kick for a while. When all the movement stopped, I got all my stuff together and walked out to my truck. I was probably half an hr. getting the truck finally backed up to her for loading...and she was laying there still alive watching me. She couldn't get up or move much at all but was really interested in what I was doing. Finally had to give her a present in the ear to finish the job.
