Hogs see 840nm

Hogs see 840nm - 11/15/17 02:44 PM

I have an 840nm infrared light that hogs can see the red glow in the front of the light and they know to run now. I have heard the 940nm light has no glow. Does anyone have a 940nm verified light? Need model number and corporation name if so. I don't want to buy one and have to send it back if it glows. Thanks in advance for input

I had that same thing happen to me. I changed to thermal, so can;t help. Good luck though!

I've had that happen plenty of times. I switched to the 940 and haven't had any issues so far. The range is limited which is the only downside.

Cooga Bear is spot on about the limited range. Most 940 IR lights emit very little or no visible light. Some emit more than others. The problem is that if you change only the light (same power, reflector, etc.), you will not get near the shine as you would get from an 805nm light. Also, some devices do not see the 940nm IR nearly as well as they do the 805s. Don't be surprised if your useful range is cut by 1/3 or 1/2.

Agree with DNS. 940 cuts your range down, though it may be still plenty for what you do. The 940 still puts of a glow but it's greatly reduced.

I bought a pass filter. Going to try it when it arrives

Quite a few game cameras with nighttime capability use 850nm for their flashes.
Put out a few of those game cameras in the area and give them a while to get used to the game cameras.
Go hunt 'em.

Change your plan as they have have busted your approach route.
Play the wind and only go to that location when wind is in your face.
Try from an elevated location as they don't tend to look up and won't see your IR glow near as often.

It's amazing how fast they learn when death is on the line!

And THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE, Sir!

Everytime someone says thank you for your service I don't know what to say. Best thing my little brain can come up with is don't thank me, thank Jesus for creating people that serve. But some don't believe in Jesus so to those people I just say thanks.

My thank you comes from the heart and is true and pure from someone that understands.

My Dad served in WWII until health problems prevented it.
My Step Dad carried a 50 cal thru The Battle of the Bulge.
My Uncle came home from Pearl Harbor in a small box.
My Step Brother came back from Nam with a really bad dose of cancer from being drenched in Agent Orange.

I never served but worked for big 3 DOD contractors for 30 years.
In the past, I have done quite a few PGR rides.

It's all about my respect for another member of my "military family" Brother.

trustfire T20 can be had with 850nm oslon black LED or in 940nm oslon black. The led module can be swapped.

amazon t20 940nm pill

Or you can get the light, uniquefire t20 940nm

I can see 500yds with a gen3 pvs14 and a 3x magnifier with the 940nm on high and the beam focused tight. So it will give more then enough illumination. With gen 2 or digital I have not tried it out to see the difference in the range vs the 850nm. Both will still have the dull glow, but the 940nm has less.

Going to jump in here as I recently pulled the trigger on an xsight and was looking for a better IR illuminator. That uniquefire t20 940nm work good with my xsight?

I have a Resolute digital scope and basically if you can remove the ir filter on the ccd the camera will see all light. It effect daytime use a little but 500 yards is possible. Mine is a T-20 with. 950nm poll. I do not know if a x-sight can see it or not. Here is a video I made using my scope and light. There is no audio so turn down the sound because of the static.
