22 mag for hogs

Shoot them in the head

Short range with precision shot placement and it will do fine. May even do fine out a ways with extreme shot placement, but its surely not my first pic.

I do it all of the time. I have shot just as many with a 22 mag than I have with my deer rifle. I have dropped good size hogs from over 120 yards with mine. Just have to shoot it between the eyes or behind the ear.

Put it in the ear hole, dead pig! I use mine quite a bit in the off season while riding around, confident out to 100yd or so with it. Bullet starts dropping pretty quick past that.

This. One of the ugliest encounters we had was from a boar being shot in the shoulder with a 22 mag. Head shot "should" work. But it's certainly not my first caliber choice.

When my son was younger he shot a few with my .22wmr. Right in the ear. Pigs went nowhere but down.

I have shot wild hogs with a 22lr in the ear. They go down on the spot

Shoot them in the guts and let them run off to die.

I “splashed” a .22 Mag vmax on a hog head. Switched up to FMJ cci .22 Mag. Got killing penetration with it. Not my normal hog round but kept it in the popup during spring turkey season. Have since moved up.

I've killed a bunch of hogs in traps with my KelTec PMR30. As mentioned before, hit 'em in the eye socket or ear hole and they'll go down hard. Only killed one outside a trap with my 22WMR. I was running a raccoon trap line and came upon a hog chewing on a trapped 'coon. He saw me, dropped the coon, headed in my direction, and I poured about 15 shots into his head from 25 yards, just as fast as I could pull the trigger! Pure adrenalin; scared scatless; definitely not the caliber of choice when I actually go out hog hunting!
