CornCam on an animal crossing and the Hogs prefer the neighbors field instead of mine... - 07/02/16 02:10 PM
I haven't posted a video in awhile due to my Angel Eyes DVR finally crapping out. I've got a brand new UNV MDVR to replace it and I'm back in business.
In this video I chronicle some recent hunts but mainly I just want to share how frustrating it is to setup for a hunt over our oats field while seemingly every pig in the county is running around us to get to our neighbors field.
The pigs come out in early evening (daylight) hours and can be 100 yards away as if not a care in the world while we sit until 9 / 10 / 11 pm waiting for action, the last few weeks we've only killed hogs that are crossing our field to get to the neighbors, its a lot of waiting for a 1 - 2 minute opportunity.
In an attempt to make hunting time spent more efficient we identified an animal crossing route on one of the smaller fields that connects a county road / our property / the neighbors fertile field. We initially setup a standard game cam on video mode and it recorded a decent amount of animal activity. The problem with game cams is they record for 5 - 10 seconds in low quality and they are motion activated so to me they don't always capture all the activity especially on the fringe of their range.
This past Wednesday we setup our CornCAMs in place of the game cam, it records continuous video at high resolution - it was a quick deployment so it looks a bit rough in application - the cameras may not be set at just the right height and angles so Im returning monday to see what I captured and make adjustments. The only thing that could wreck the setup is cows or hogs or deer getting tangled in the wire and bringing down the house.
So here is a video to sum up the above, hopefully its the first in a string of videos that captures our efforts at this particular field.
