Me and my Resolute go Hog hunting - 02/22/16 05:27 PM

Got to go Hog Hunting Friday night with MikeT1 and his Resolute Digital Night Vision scope. Man the action was crazy. My best guess I shot about 750lb of pork. Oh all you X-Sight owners, Mike's scope is still on release number one. grin

Ed, you should have been there Saturday night as well. We cleaned up on pork and yotes again. I had boar that went roughly 240, another that was over 250 and a couple smaller ones. Maybe Mike will be along soon to post some of the videos.

He definitely has developed a good product and with continued mods it'll get better. Ed, you ought to send us that N750 and let us do some side by side comparisons.

Great hunting with you, Ed. Had a blast. I will post more videos as I get a chance.

For some reason, by the time I convert the video to a format Sony Vegas can work with, edit it, and post to youtube the quality is pretty bad compared to real world screen clarity.

This one was much longer and more interesting but had to cut a lot due to the excited language wink

Re: Me and my Resolute go Hog hunting - 02/23/16 11:46 PM

Nathan scanned the field and saw a group of coyotes waayyyy out there. We moved up to a cross fence and got set up. As we set up we noted that there were cows to the left and knew we couldnt shoot left. Nathan said he was going to mouth squeak but they probably wouldnt hear. He did and they popped up to their feet! As you can see, they trotted our way. I pulled the shot too far forward on the first one and he ran ( of course ) left. I wanted SO BAD to shoot but knew better. When I came back right Nathan was saying "shoot that one!" Just as I got him in view Nathan couldnt take it any longer and nailed him! Instantly he apologized. I told him " I dont care! I told you before that you can shoot!" Then he started yell whispering " shoot that one!" so I pulled up and shot ( at ) him. He dropped ( cant see well in the edited video ) but we didnt find him. I have to admit it was awesome. Nathan was as excited as i was.

Negative. I have been thinking of offering a viewfinder but Im struggling with the idea. That would negate one of the features that sets my units apart from the other digital units : the ease of scanning and viewing an area without holding the rifle up to your eye for long ( uncomfortable ) periods. For the serious night hunter that cant ( or wont ) spend large amounts of money on a NV scope and monocular or other scanning tool etc ( this describes me ) it fills the bill. ( in my opinion )

I butchered this video up pretty good too. There was 4 of us out there and the sow saw us and headed towards the fence. But not fast enough hehe

Can you upload a full sequence of action mute the voices for the excited talk but I'd like to see the action non-stop

Thanks

Backlighting issue?

Re: Me and my Resolute go Hog hunting - 02/24/16 02:51 AM

I dont think so. There was 4 of us all trying to get set up perpendicular to a fence all lined out. I think we added up to being effectively the size of a truck! I personally have snuck up to a pig at a pipe at 25yds and not been busted. It helps when they are preoccupied. That was this past Friday night and the moon was bright!

I will see what I can do. It may take a couple of days. The coyote one is pretty long with 4-5 rounds fired at slightly stupid distances wink

Re: Me and my Resolute go Hog hunting - 02/25/16 02:46 AM

Here is a mount for hunting without a viewfinder eyepiece.

When yall hunted this past weekend were you shooting off sticks in a kneeling position or standing with the sticks lower looking down on the screen or ...

It would be interesting if you could do a video on the hunting techniques with this technology when stalking

Re: Me and my Resolute go Hog hunting - 02/25/16 03:39 AM

When I am trying to get video I use sticks and stand for the sake of getting decent video, with the rifle in a comfortable position at eye level. I personally think getting video is a pain and do it only out of necessity. When not capturing video I much prefer stalking in close, no sticks, sometimes crawling or whatever is necessary. I am a bowhunter at heart and like to get close and personal.

I dont really feel there is a need for a video demonstrating the stalking techniques using the unit because it is no different than using any other type of sight or weapon. Be quiet, move slowly, keep the wind in your favor, stay close to or in cover if possible, keep a low profile etc. Youtube has plenty of videos of guys hunting that are better than me at hunting and teaching.

Mr. Popper, think of shooting behind an EOTech. Search for video of someone using an EOTech. There is very little difference. Actually no difference.
