So that's where the pigs were.... - 11/29/15 03:11 AM
at the urging of the wife, I went out on the front porch with the spotlight, looking for the evil armadillos. Saw a couple of possums and went back in the house to get the binocs. So, with the binocs and the big light I took a look in the side yard for possums, which may have been armadillos. No possums. Must have been 10 big black hogs, looking almost invisible in the rain. In my dang yard. The big light didn't bother them at all. So...I went back in, got the 223 and the only ammo I had in the house, which was 40 gr Ballistic Tips. I'd have told ya to not use those tiny little pills on big hogs, but I had no other option. I put the red light on the scope, loaded the 223 and went back to the porch. Hogs were still there. Found the biggest and put the crosshairs high in the neck and down it went. Major riot going on now, but another one slowed down and I tapped it too. Almost got a shot on a third, but couldn't quite get it done. I was working that bolt as fast as I could.
Got dressed and went out to look. That big one must weigh about 200 pounds, or close to it. That tiny little bullet did the job. Amazing. And I was going out for pigs in the morning, in the cold cold rain. I think I'll sleep in.
