Yalls opinion on pigs new to area.

So some land in the family we have has not had pigs on it EVER, but today i was doing tractor work and noticed 3 large rooting areas probably 20ft to 45ft diameter areas. I thought that it had to be rooting areas, but not seeing a pig in my 31 years of existence didnt think it possible. Long story short i saw not an hour later about a 175lb pig run out across the road into some brush so thick you cant even walk through it. My question is ive alwaye been told and thought if you see 1 you have many more in the area. To the west of us is about 300 acres of thick stuff you cant walk thru and has not been hunted in 40 yrs. To the east a neighboring citrus and vegtable farm about 1/2 mile away. To north 6 miles heavily populated. To the south mexico. So is it safe to assume we have a pig issue looming? Im the only one that ever hunts or shoots at this family place.

Two answers. First, that one pig could have done all the damage in question. Second, you have always had a pig issue looming as you have viable habitat. It wasn't an if, but a when.

Lone boars can cover a lot of territory looking for sows or feeding areas where they are no in competition with other boars. That may be the only pig you have for now, but it won't be your last.

Tough to say how big the problem really could be. Put some cameras up and start killing them. The pigs on the places I hunt come and go. For instance, I have a place south of Dallas I hunt and lately it's been two big boars coming into the feeder. However, 6 weeks ago I had a group of 15 coming in everyday.

Not always the case, can be a lone boar. Do you have crops on your place or a food source?

The neighbor about 1/2 mile to the east had about 100ac of cabbage being picked last week and this week. Always has a vegtable or sorghum growing within 1/2 mile from seeing the pig today he was heading east in that direction.

My Father-in-Law used to say "Where there's one pig, there's two pigs. Where there's two pigs, there's a lot of pigs".

don't let them get a hold on the place as long as you can.. if they don't shoot them or take care of them now they will regret it..

you can't shoot them fast enough! You should stop in and ask the neighbor with the cabbage if he has had problems from pigs.

Im going to ask the neighbor. Turns out that the rooting appears to be a lone boar, and hes a good 250+lb. Talked to border patrol and looks like there are a few that have been oushed to the area, but have only been around for maybe 10 months. Pigs are heavy 20mi west up river and 20mi east down river.

Im gonna get blasted but its nice having game to eat besides quail/dove. Always had javis, yotes, and bobcats but never anything to bbq. So i dont want to hunt them out of the area but don't want to let it get outta hand. How many would yall take on a monthly basis. I know not a lot of detail, but your best guestimate is appreciated.

Im thinking shoot the 50lbs because they are just weaned and will limit offspring numbers a bit?

Shoot as many as you can, you'll never get them all. As long as there are viable food source and water around they'll they'll be back.
