My pig traps

I have built a few of my own traps, and modified many more.
The skeptics that have never trapped a pig are all too quick to tell me what I was doing wrong. So here is three different approaches to catching pigs.

This first one was an old dog kennel that I took the door off of and swung the door from the top. It was free so what the heck. We catch multiples here all of the time including a few at 160 pounds
I was told that is was too small to fit a pig. Well here is four





We have some very stubborn pigs at one place. We have watched as they will start to go in a regular trap, they would go about half the way in and then back out. So we fashioned this big door trap from what we found lying behind the shop. The door is 4ft x 8ft. We have caught about 20 pigs in it. Including a few in the 150 pound range.
I have many game cam pictures of deer jumping out.





Now the All Season trap with a slight modification.



Why do they always flop over and die behind the door?

Nice traps. I particularly like the one with the large gate. I've been thinking about making one with panels that hook together (like cattle pen panels) but wasn't thinking of one that small. Yours is probably a more practical size.

re: the last photo . . . Do you ever have problems with large hogs getting in and rooting under the side walls and lifting the trap up and escaping?

No problem with the pigs getting out of that last trap (the modified All Season one). The floor latches down with a draw latch at each corner. We have caught some big pigs in there over the years, and none have popped the top off yet.
It was my wife's idea to hinge the top off after I tried to get her to pull a hog out through the door.

That big door trap is just U-bolted together at the corners. The panels stack up like plywood in the back of the truck.

I've gotten permission to put in my first trap from the landowner where we've only been allowed to hunt before - looking at doing a t-post style trap but that big trap door sounds awesome - how did you setup/trigger the door to close?
