Made a turn around this year

Made a turn around this year - 09/28/17 02:35 AM

I had to have a surgery late last year. Had a polyp taken out that was too big to get from the inside. No biggie, everything was clear and all is good.
Having to fast for the colonoscopy and then for the surgery 3 days later, and recovery, I found out that after not eating much in a 9 day period that I didn't actually die of starvation and my stomach shrunk a good bit.
So when I got up and going, I made the choice to not keep eating the way I had been
I was overweight and needed to change.

I started logging in all of my food and did it for 2 weeks to see what I was taking in and formed a plan to cut back my calories

In 3 months I lost 28 lbs and in 6 months, I was down 50
Then I hit a big stall and stopped losing.
Went to see a nutritionist and was told that I needed to start exercising and building muscle to help burn more fat.

I started with laps in the pool until the water got too cold and then 3 weeks ago, I bought a mountain bike
At 48 freaking years old, I bought a bike! Its like I'm in my mid life, but I went for a $600 mountian bike instead of a Mustang

I lift at home 4 times a week with free weights and I ride as well.
Ive gone basically every day and I'm up to about 5 miles each time.

I'm losing weight again, I'm down close to 60 lbs now and have about 10 more to go, but I have no intention of stopping what I'm doing. I feel fantastic

That's awesome man, keep it up. If you ever want to do an obstacle course race, let me know. They're fun and you can take it as easy as you want or go all out.

I'm not much into an organized race, but I would love to look at harder trails and things like that.
I bought a 29" Hardtail Specialized and I like any chance I can to go off pavement

I understand that. But one series I run is a smaller one, less than 1000 people, and that amount isn't there at the same time. It's just like running/walking a 4 mile trail with obstacles throughout it.

I'm 58 and bought a bike in June. Hybrid bike. Did a 61 mile ride a couple of weeks ago.

Congrats on your success.

Trickster
man that's awesome.
I have a 29" hard tail Specialized mountain bike, not a road bike, so the most I ride would be about 12 miles on pavement

My goal is to ride a good hard 30 minutes a day, that's about 6 miles
On weekends I'll do an hour or hour and half but its hard on hills and dirt so its a work out.

I went back to my doc Tuesday and he cut my blood pressure med by more than half. All I take now is a 50 mg pill.
He said that all of my blood work is good and maybe he will take me completely off it in about 6 months and that's the only pill I take

I am still down 60 lbs and building decent muscle with workouts and the bike.

It seems like I eat all of the time. Smaller portions but good , high nutrient food and I'm still under 1900 calories most days and I'm still losing about a pound a week like this.

Another update
I joined a gym in November and hired a trainer
I work out 4-5 days a week and work with my trainer once per week

I got a book called Bigger Leaner Stronger by Mike Matthews and read up on how to train and proper nutrition. I have learned a bunch from it.
I hired a trainer to teach me the proper way to do bench press, dead lifts and squats so I would not get injured. I have kept using him though because he is really helping me advance with my training. I am now down to 20 percent body fat and I want to get down to 15-16 percent
My trainer actually did a write up on his Facebook page about me

My latest bloodwork looks perfect and my doc took me down to the lowest dose of blood pressure meds and said 2 months ago, I would likely be off of them later this spring.
