What's the point of chia seeds?

I'm eating some right now. I put them in a fiber mix breakfast. One tbsp has 5g carbs but 4g fiber. Helps me stay regular.

If interested, I put in a spoon of splenda/stevia, 2 spoons of chia seeds, 4 spoons of ground flax seeds, and 2 spoons of unsweetened coconut. Add heavy whipping cream to give it thickness and cinnamon to taste. It tastes like Cracklin' Oat Bran cereal but is healthy.

Like RSTX said, for their size they're loaded with protein, fiber, and healthy fats.

They absorb about 10-12x their weight in water too, so they're really good at keeping you and your innards hydrated - assuming you soak them in water before consuming. I usually soak a heaping tablespoon in water overnight then add the gel to my morning shake blend.

I've personally found that eating them dry can dehydrate me and lead to constipation (unless I drink a stupid amounts of water with them and throughout the day).

Oh yeah and they're dirt cheap too. Costco has 32oz packages for about 8 bucks. Quality is good and way cheaper than anywhere else I've found.

Interesting...I did not know about soaking them. I'll give that a try. Good info!

Oh yeah? Mind sharing the recipe? We're loaded with frozen berries from last summer - been trying to decide what to do with them.

Absolutely. I did a little tutorial a few months back. Here's the link.

I dunno why it's not letting me link my thread. The thread title was called easy jelly.
