What are you using in the field

I have a Buck Vanguard (fixed blade) that I've been using to process animals but I just don't feel like it's doing the job I need it to do. I feel it's too big to safely use when you're in the cavity of animal. Curious what others are using.

Havalon knives like the piranta edge or baracuta blaze are really hard to beat for the money.

I've got a K-Bar that I got when I was 7. Still holds an edge.

If I am feeling nostalgic I will use my wife's grandfather Old Timer. I have several Buck knives, all work well. This summer I bought a custom built Damascus blade at the Texas Trophy Hunter Show, I'm looking forward to using it this season.

Use a 35 year old sharade 3 inch fixed blade knife. I have recently purchased a knives of Alaska knife that is similar in size and shape, but just enjoy having that old scharade with me. I bet it's cleaned over 100 big game animals.

Have many knives that I have used over the years. Right now I am using an old knife I picked up in a antique store. No brand name but strong steel and holds a edge very well.

I seldom have to do it. I have 3 or 4 teens that hunt my land. On the occasions where I shoot a deer, I just tell them where it is and it's soon packed in a cooler. They all carry knives that I've cobbled together.

I have been using a knife designed by Jerry Fisk:

Knives of Alaska Light Hunter Combo is what I have in my bag, but have been looking for something new for an EDC knife. They hold a good edge and are easy to clean. The guthook is a really nice feature and it has been helping me with my tail splitting on my furs way more than I thought it would, just zips down them like butter.

I have good knives, some wheel I use for hunting, but if it comes to skin an animal using a cheap and sharp Morakniv, if I lost on the field replaced it with a few euros, and not have to worry about the exhaustive maintenance when this dirty, I put it in the dishwasher

Yep, I have a Morakniv just like it and I paid around $12 or so for it. Those are great knives for the money. I also have a Gerber Profile and a SOG Field Pup, but the one I generally carry is a Stic custom knife that I won in a drawing on here a few years ago. I really love that knife.

last few years a 6" stiff boning
knife either a forschner or old hickory
start to finish. i have a big box of
every kind and price of knife, but
that's what works best for me and my way.
skin, quarters off, backstraps, neck roast,
zip locks, cooler.

Don't gota be the side really I just make a cut along the back were I can pull each side down easier rather than the whole thing.. puts less stress on the tendons that's holding it up.. me no like dirt meat

ok thanks. i thought it might be some
new something i need to learn to make
things easier. i'm all about the easy biz.
pulling one loose wouldn't be relevant
to me anyway since i hang head up.
i'm not crazy about the dirt meat either. happy3

It's been a good one. That knife has tasted quite a bit of deer and pig flesh over the last few years. Thanks again.

I got this one from Tim "Chops" Lambkin. It's one of my EDC knives. In addition to the belt sheath it came with, his lovely bride made this custom sheath so I can carry in by bibs....

Buck 119 Special, Buck 110 Folder, Buck Vanguard, Buck 113 ranger skinner, or a buck 311 slim line trapper. WHatever strikes my mood for that particular hunt.
