Not a hunting knife, but I had fun making it

I like to do a little bit of leather work, and as I get more and more into it, the cost of tools and leather is increasing. I can't do much about the cost of leather, but I can make some of my own tools and save some money. Round knives are particularly expensive

I am not a knife maker, so I probably did all of this wrong.

Not sure if this is good steel, or even what kind it is but its been in my shop for a LONG time doing nothing but collecting dust.

I've got this old Milwaukee portaband from when I use to work in strip mines. This thing was an amazing time saver making hand rails

I don't have one of those nice knife making belt sanders, but I do have this little 1x30 dude I bought when I was 18 years old for like $24.

Bought this guy at the same time for $150 - Before I learned about real wood working, I used it as a planer.

This is as much bevel as I could put on it

Hate this part

Now for the handle

Some redneck heat treat

Decided to try and sharpen it before proceeding, to make sure it holds an edge

It is sharp enough to shave, and has held up pretty good

Ive got some mahogany left over from some guitars I have built.

Mixed up some epoxy and set the scales. I also peened the brass rod.

Ughhhhhh.... more sanding

I just finished it with some Teak oil

I also polished the blade up nicer, but I don't have a picture. I will take one tomorrow when I get down to the shop.

Thanks yall, I have mostly been using it to cut cardboard, emory cloth, and non leather stuff. I am so use to using the utility knife and straight edge, I can't ever remember to pick this guy up. Plus, I am afraid I am going to drop it on my foot.

Great job! I've been wanting one of those since my dad saw them in Alaska.

Don't know what I'd use it for, but that's a really nice shop setup and for not knowing how to make knives it looks like you did just fine!

Gonna need to make a pouch for it now. whistle
