Fairfield State Park - 10/20/17 01:00 PM

What are the chances of getting in as a stand-by at Fairfield State Park for the doe and spike hunts there in January?

You need to call them about a week prior to the hunt. They will know how many slots they have available.

The 2 super friendly Game Wardens I spoke to at length when I caught them eating lunch at the Work Site Office last week at FFSP, said exactly what Erny said.

But...They will not know for sure until about 9:30-10am of the Check In Day....and depending on weather in the early January Hunt Period it could be None or Several...and since I live about 45 minutes away I'll probably be there early "Depending on Weather"....and my available freezer space from the Season's success's or lack of elsewhere. This is a GDA Hunt with spike Bucks allowed....and they have plenty of hogs too right now they'd like to see go away.

FWIW FFSP provides preset blinds, which are 2 hog panels set in an L shape & brushed with tree limbs. They also allow popup's to be placed beside the provided blind location, but NO Ladder or Tree stands of any kind to preserve the safety of the hunters shot angle within the designated bullet path.

My son was drawn for the December 20-22 youth hunt, I'll post a report as soon as I can after the hunt to let you know the results and any tips we might come up with.

Called last year right before the youth hunt, it was a no-go all spots were filled.

Re: Fairfield State Park - 10/29/17 01:20 AM

I hunted there in December of 2014 and there was a line of vehicles waiting for stand by. I talked to one group that said they had hunted stand by there the last three years.

I will be there for the first doe and spike hunt in January. I wonder if I can use my two free night stay from the Fort Boggy cancelation.
