Sam houston national forest youth hunt

My 9 yr old was drawn for a doe tag but never been to the area. I am not looking for spots just some tips to get my boy adicted to hunting.

drive the roads at dusk and look for areas along the road where deer are staging and feeding. Be there the next day about 150-200 yards in from the road and wait for them to head your way.

Its not easy hunting in the SAM but you can get lucky. Especially if you can set up where other hunters push the deer towards you.

Obey the rules because the GW's are sticklers about every little detail and rule. If you shoot a deer or discharge a weapon 145.0 yards from the road rather than 150.0 yards away from the road is how detailed they are and will be towards hunters. Obviously the 145 yards is a no-no and a ticket or misdemeanor.

Spend as much time as you can in the woods is no secret but that is what it takes.
