Finally got in bow range! - 10/23/16 02:44 PM
But...those pesky antler restrictions kept me from getting my first bow kill. I headed up to the SHNF early sat morning and hiked in to a new spot about 3/4 of a mile off any path. Man was it nice to get to a tree and not be covered in sweat! I got up and sunrise followed about an hour later. I heard plenty of rustling as the winds were calm and kind of swirly, so I was hopeful but worried my scent would blow my cover. At 8:50am a little year/year and a half fork came strolling in. I watched him from about 75 yard make his way all the way to seven yards. I was so excited and trying to get all set up..cameras going..preshot checklist and as I was honing in I noticed he wasnt a doe. I then waited for the straight on view and to my dismay, there was no way he would be legal. It was amazing to be so close, I just wish he was bigger or a doe! He hung around for about ten minutes occasionally stopping to smell the air, but he never looked up at me. I was glad to have my scent under control. I have to edit, but ill get a video up soon. One more weekend of bow, and then comes the duck opener (ill pass on public rifle opening day). Cheers
