Target shooting is not allowed. Neither is littering.

May be simpler to go to a clay shooting range. There are several around.

I have heard mention of one of the sections being open to target shooting but not sure which one. As far as skeet there is a range up on 51 that is like a golf course for skeet shooting. We visited once and it was pretty slick.

Google shows that Unit 3 is open to target shooting, but when you click the link there is no mention of it. I remember reading on the National Forest Service website that there was an area designated for skeet shooting, but the forest service website seems to not provide much info on anything related to the grasslands anymore, which is a shame, because it's a wonderful place but it's hard to figure out and find your way around.

Go to the office in Decatur and ask.

Or just call the Decatur office. There is only one Unit that allows target shooting.

popcorn any updates ? From what read in posts, some say ya, some say na .. i might been wrong bout not having ta have hunting licence if can shoot clays on LBJ since it is game presurve... Have hear of people getting ticket for just driving on a WMA with out permit... Most have designated parking area's.. Whin first opened up the WMA here. Asked if could park at ATV entrence trails . They have signs, no vehecals beyond this point.. Was told as long as didnt block traffic, & not terring up place... So far never got ticket... Closest came was a warning ticket, on different WMA... Had little trail leading off ta left, it was wet, light pick-up, 4bald tires. So drove threw standing water, & parked on back side of little hill... Did get warning note, saying can only see tail lights, park were can see vehical, something to that effect... Did make little rut, so spent bout hour, filling up cowboyhat with rocks pebbles ta fill in... If wanted, he could have gave ticket... They just doing their job, every one has bad days, he must of been in good mood... flag

There is one parcel that they do allow shotgun target practice. It is on the west side of Alvord, unit 3. You don't need a hunting license to shoot, only to hunt. USFS office in Decatur-940-627-5475
