lake lavon duck hunting

Hello y'all. I'm a public land hunter mostly because I refuse to pay outrageous lease fees. This will be my 3rd season at lavon for ducks. Not trying to take over anyone's honey hole but I'm taking my girlfriend and her dad out to lavon this weekend in hopes to bag some birds. We didn't do so hot during dove season this year (lack of birds in gunter) does anyone have any recommendations on which plots to hunt? Gonna be doing some scouting after work all week. Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Only spots with water that can be hunted are off of 380 on the NE side of the lake. East side south of the 380 bridge is your best bet. Lucas Rd (West) side of the lake has no water in the areas that can be legally hunted.

Better make darn sure EVERYONE in your party has a COE permit and is squared away with plugs, non toxic shot, orange vest and hat, and whatever else the Feds, Lavon corp of engineers and TPWD requires. Leroy and Josh as well as the fed Rangers work that lake hard on opening weekend and most days during the season and they have ZERO mercy on stupidity.

Drive your vehicle on Lavon COE land and see what happens to it......and you for that matter. Or hunt in areas not allowed. You won't like the outcome.

Used to drive on it when I was in high school ha I'm well aware now that it is a big no no. Anywhere I go is gonna be a hell of a hike in and out. But it's worth it I play by the rules so no worries there. Met Leroy a handful of times. Heck of a guy. Everyone in my group will play by the rules as well. Thanks. I thought you do not have to wear hunter orange while hunting migratory game birds. Just o and from your hunting spots... Or am I wrong?

All I can say is if you go out there, be damn careful. We don't call that place Lake Suck because the hunting sucks.

People don't understand how a dried up lake bed works. The top layer dries out and gets nice and hard on top. But below that is still the silt and sediment from being under water for many years. You break through that top layer and you may never get out. Especially if you are anywhere near an old creek or river bed.

Have fun out there. I have a friend that slays ducks out there every year.

if ya can find place ta set-up, once shooten begins ducks be moving around. then its, who shot what. best wishes ta all, safe hunting

One of the few 911 moments I've had while hunting or fishing was at Lavon a few years ago. We were walking out to the edge of the water and never made it. We sank up to our knees in muck that was progressively deeper the closer we got to the water.

There's no need to deal with crap like that to hunt public land. North Texas is covered with honey holes.

Out there last weekend and no water in sister grove. Mud puddle here and there but nothing a duck is going to interested in.
