You can sign up for the draw starting August 1st, and they draw a certain number of permits. They have a redraw for the ones that are not claimed. Archery only. The lake office is like .2 miles from Bass Pro.

Re: Grapevine Deer Permits - 08/25/14 03:03 PM

Why only draw half of those permits not claimed? BTW the website says 20% not 50%,

Thanks,

Lol!!!! Vine is a very tight lipped kind of place.

It's a swamp...really is!!!! Prepare for that and use it to your advantage.

Get out now and scout your spots... It's public so always have a couple back ups.

List of what you need.
Gps(phone will work)
Snake boots!!!
Bug repellent!!!
Thermocel
Climbing stand/safety harness
Headlamp

Harder you hunt and scout more successful you will be. It's thick and nasty this time of year.

TY BOBO - GV sounds like a place to find big deer then, because most people won't touch foot in a place like that.

Re: Grapevine Deer Permits - 08/28/14 01:58 AM

Ive hunted out there. Didnt get drawn this year, but I got a waterfowl and general hunting permit. some good deer in areas. Key is to go deep. Mock my word: He who puts in the foot work will find good deer. LAst time I was drawn, saw tons of deer and got busted a few times. From my truck to my stand was a 45 min walk. I would change at my stand. Little tuff, but worth it if you put in the work. Found a sweet spot only accessible by boat or canoe. Had a cam out there last year in hopes I'd get drawn. What I saw blew my mind and I still won't share pics!

BTW, you'll be an idiot if you step foot out there without snake boots. You;ve been warned.

Re: Grapevine Deer Permits - 05/07/15 04:44 PM

after season update: I went hunting around 8 times, with snake boots mind you, saw no snakes, 1 tiny deer 50yds away and 1 hog. The average walk in to my stand/blind was 1 mile.

I did see a S.W.A.T. team practicing from their helicopter 2 times I was out, 2 guys on 4 wheelers hunting hogs at night, people walking their dogs, other hunters, a couple rubs and some HUGE ACORNS about the size of golf balls!

overall a bust but I did learn a lot and if I get drawn next year I know where not to go.
