Drawn hunt results posted - 08/17/13 01:19 PM

Several of the hunts for the Aug 8 deadline drawings have been drawn and posted. Looks like gun pronghorn, archery mule deer, and archery exotic have been drawn. So far I have struck out with just preference points.

I won a hunt with a crossbow at Big Lake Bottom. I don't know much about this WMA. Does anyone have any experience hunting this place? Or what I should expect there.

Yeah I have a few that are not showing up when I call as well. All my private lands are not even on the recording today. I figured they are updating everything still. I have struck out on all my other categories so far. This crossbow hunt will be my first WMA hunt that I have drawn in 5 years lol. Got to start somewhere

You can access the same automated system with the 1 800 792 1112 number. So you don't have to listen through all the recorded choices, prompts 5, then 7, will get you there. Just now the recording said it will not be available till 11:00 am.

I'll call back tomorrow. Be patient folks.

Re: Drawn hunt results posted - 08/19/13 11:30 PM

I have hunted there twice. Missed a big 10 the first year, I believe it was 3 years ago, but I did harvest a doe that year. Two years ago I saw a little 6 and killed a couple of hogs. I can't remember the compartment #'s but the first year was the last unit by the trinity and the next year was the unit right before the last unit! There are plenty of deer and snakes too. Good luck!

I got thru on 1st call, got drawn for 5th year in a row for something...PLA at Kerrville-Shriner. Fingers crossed for the next round of drawings. Hoping for another banner year like last year, got drawn for 3 hunts plus my grandson getting drawn for a youth only hunt. Thank you TPWD!

Just called, sound like I got selected for either sex Private Lands at East McCulloch. Forgot that I put in for that one.

Re: Drawn hunt results posted - 08/23/13 06:57 PM

Only preference points on my end as well. This is the first year I've put in for these hunts .. sounds like these carry over for the same hunt for next year. I wonder what your odds are of getting a Pronghorn hunt w/o any preference points?

For the Gun Pronghorn with no PP, you can just assume you aint getting drawn. That's the hardest hunt in the whole system to draw.

My dad applied for 20+ years for it and never drew.

The Private Land Pronghorn hunt, your odds are better because the category is only in its 2nd year.
Posted By: red bluff

Re: Drawn hunt results posted - 08/23/13 10:09 PM

I got my Pronghorn selection notice today. I think I had 16 points in that draw, I guess that means this was my 17 year to apply. Anyway If anyone knows any tips on Rita Blanca I would be interested,

Re: Drawn hunt results posted - 08/28/13 09:24 PM

New guy here with a question that I can't find an answer to. I moved here from CT a few months back and I'm thinking of applying for a draw hunt. Do I have to have a hunting license to participate? I have my safety course certs, I just haven't gotten a hunting license here in TX yet.
Posted By: BurrOak

Re: Drawn hunt results posted - 08/28/13 09:52 PM

No license needed to apply, or the Hunters Safety for that matter. You wont need either of those until you show up on the place to hunt, if you get drawn.

Better hurry with those applications, the deadline is in 2 weeks.

Re: Drawn hunt results posted - 08/28/13 10:26 PM

OK, so I will have to get just a resident hunting license prior to the hunt date? I'm sending the apps in the a.m. Thanks for the info.

For the archery hunts, I didn't even bother with calling. Over at TBH, everybody was having so much trouble getting thru, I got my notice of selection in the mail while people were still trying to find out their results!!!
Besides, it will probably be another week or 2 by the time they draw all the gun hunts.

Re: Drawn hunt results posted - 09/12/13 06:01 PM

For the first time in several years I chose not to apply for all the deer gun hunts. I have twenty something preference points in gun deer either sex and it would not be a good year for me to go if drawn, so I can't risk throwing those away to get the preference point. It would be so easy for them to add a preference point only code and still collect the application fee. Why they don't want free money is beyond me. I spend well over $100 every year in other states just buying preference points. Some that are lotteries no different than TPWD drawn hunts. Some of those states I even have to buy a non resident license just for the privlege of buying a preference point in their state, yet residents in those states keep on paying the same $3 here same as we do. bang

Re: Drawn hunt results posted - 09/16/13 03:24 PM

I just spoke with a lady at the Public Hunts office of TP&W. I called them (and it took 31 minutes on hold) as I could only find in their automated system that they have processed 2 of the 3 drawing applications that I submitted - so I was afraid that I messed up one of them.

She said that I shouldn't expect draw results available until Monday of next week and it could possibly be later than that as they are still processing applications. She confirmed that they won't draw the hunts until they process all valid applications that were received by the deadline.

I received our notice of selection letter yesterday for GDA, so you should be getting one in the next few days if you got drawn.

My 2 selections came in yesterday as well. You always know its a good thing when you get the envelope and not the postcard!

I guess I'll have to wait for the letter or postcard, all I get when I call is busy signal or ringing forver.

It seemed like last year the continuous ringing started when they shut the system down to input more results. Maybe that is what's happening now. Have all the results for the September deadline been posted? I didn't pay attention, I just heard "not selected" or "selected".

Same here. Every time I think I finally got through it rings forever and doesn't give me an automated prompt.

Yes, all the Sept. 11th application deadlines have been drawn and the Notice of Selection letters went out last Friday and this Monday morning.

Good to all and congrats to all that drew!

Skunked on everything again, for about the 7th year in a row. I have lots of pref points in every category, anywhere from 7-14. I'm thinking I might drop my 2 hunting buddies from my apps and go solo on everything next year. 3 per app is really hurting my chances.

Are you putting in on every category? I put in on everything every year and I hit at least one thing. I also have 2 others on all of my cards where I can. All I can say is keep trying and when you hit be sure to tell your buddies how close they came to being kicked off.

By now you have enough PP to charge people just to be on your ticket, lol.

Getting drawn solo is not bad, until it comes time to drag that critter to the truck!

Re: Drawn hunt results posted - 09/25/13 03:37 PM

Why on earth would you drag it? Do they require it to be checked in in one piece?

Almost every category. Some (not all) of the places I apply for are some of the more difficult ones to draw, and I know that's part of the reason. But 3 per app sure ain't helping me out any.

Re: Drawn hunt results posted - 09/25/13 03:45 PM

I always carry a good pack when I hunt public. I will quarter it out and walk out with it on my back. It's MUCH easier to walk a mile out with it quartered on your back than it is to drag it for one mile.

Can you do this on these draw hunts? Or do they make you bring the deer in whole?

I spoke with the biologist at Matador and he said that they want the deer brought in whole. I'm guessing he made a point to say that b/c it might influence your hunting strategy.

Then maybe he ought to drag the stupid thing in.

I do know of a guy that took a nice whitetail at Matador. He said the office has some carts you can use to wheel it out, and it wasn't overly difficult to do.

I bet that would make all the difference in the world.

Re: Drawn hunt results posted - 09/25/13 04:36 PM

The reason they don't want it quartered is they gather biological data including field dressed weight. I drug a big ole deer out of there with a Deer Sleigher. It's a tough, slippery sheet of plastic that you wrap around the deer to make it slide easy. Worked pretty good. Still damn near had a heart attack draggin him out.

Those carts are little easier than dragging. I used one and it was still tough. I am going to look for a snow disc (like a giant frisbee) to take with me this year.

It's still busy. I was wanting to double check something and all it does is ring. Did we break it their phone system?
