SS 5-20 discontinued?

Saw this and thought two things
A) that is a great price for the scope. Despite my feelings on the company that is a deal

B) they are discounted?? Didn’t see anything on the retail pages


Anyone have info?

Everything on the SampleList is considered used inventory, made up of trade ins/refurbished, dealer samples, show displays, ect....
This means the inventory is limited and discontinued. Once it's gone, it's gone.
The five to twenty isn't going to be discontinued any time soon, and the Samplelist models will still include the 4-Ever Warranty.

Interesting note to add as I would assume everything on the sample list is limited in quantities. I think 900 for that scope is good deal...


In regards to why I don’t like your company you shipped my scope (same scope ironically) to the wrong address and refused to do anything about it as you didn’t want to be out a scope but it was okay for me to be out one

The Leupold Mark 5HD is intriguing if you can stand their reticles. I'm not a Leupold guy at all, and I don't like their reticles anyway, so it's out for me. But it does seem to be good glass quality and features for the price.

The SWFA 5-20 HD illuminated model for $899 is stupidly cheap for the glass quality and build quality. I really love my non-illuminated model, and I paid more than $899 even heavily discounted. Made it to 1,100 yards with it without any real problems.

I think most, if not all, of the sample list pages say the product is discontinued because SWFA isn't actively producing used scopes. I don't see the 5-20 HD going anywhere anytime soon. I think they sell a decent number of them because they're a very good value.

If mine had a better reticle, I'd never look for anything else, ever. I just want something thinner. On small targets, the .05 mil lines cover up too much IMHO and make precise aiming just a tad more difficult than I'd like compared to more modern reticles. But that's a pretty small complaint. It works great, it's easy to look through, has great glass, and tracks perfectly.

Skylar - if you guys are taking suggestions, either update the 5-20 or make a new 6-24 HD with a NF Mil-C, Minox MR4, Kahles SKMR/SKMR3, Burris/Steiner SCR, etc. You wouldn't be able to keep them in stock if it had decent turrets, zero stop, and glass equal to the current HD glass.

.02 or .03 thick for the first Mil out of center. Leave the rest as-is.

Reason being, at 5X, hunting, that center is going to be very thin, and difficult to aquire to put on an animal. If the reticle beyond 1.0 Mil was the .05 it is now, it would still be easy to find center.

Agree on all counts. Thin for a mil, back to .05 after that. The mil quad works fine. I just need a thinner center for precision work when I'm dialed up near max mag.

Well they haven't built a 3-15X with HD glass, in spite of being told it would be a good idea for several years now.

You better hide after throwing that out there. I passed that information along. What's done with it after that I do not know. However I can tell you that it wasn't discarded, trust me.

Out of curiosity when was the last new model of scope released by Swfa?

That was last Christmas and we released our 12x32 Mil-Quad Binoculars. Prior to that it was the Second focal plane 3-15's the Christmas prior.
