I'm starting to see these on some Big Boy Rifles

I'm sure it's just me but $3,000+ for a scope without thermal imaging is ridiculous.

The new price point for "high end optics" is 2k-3k

Vortex gen 2/amg
Nightfoce ATACR
S&B on sale are high 2ks low 3ks (depending on model)
Leupold Mark 5/6
Bushnell elite tactical series

I know but I still think it's insane. I guess they will keep raising the prices until people stop buying them.

I will say optically those scopes are some of the best out there... Its not worth it to a lot of people which i understand.

What opened my eye to the difference was elk hunting. We were in a draw and sun was going down. Someone thought they saw an elk in some trees and we thought it was going to pop out soon. Given the time we set up for a shot and on my PST i lost enough light to see reliably enough before shooting time ended. The razor there was still doing fine.

It all depends on what you are using the scope for

Smart.

You're welcome to look through mine anytime you like.

Is there better glass? Probably. Is the ATACR glass great? Sure is. Are there more reliable tracking turrets, and a tougher scope out there? Not as far as I'm comcerned.

understandably so...The issue with a lot of these scopes is they all have good features so a lot of it comes down to quality of glass and that is so flipping subjective

Some people put the kahles at a high quality in glass than NF- but the question is how much better and when does it make a difference>
There is for more of a difference between these scopes and the mid tier scopes (xtr, pst1/2, etc) than among these scopes based on what i have seen.

What i think NF has done VERY well is strike a balance of features with weight and their build quality is considered top notch
Build quality>warranty any day of the week

If you spend any time behind scopes you will see the difference in the optical quality of scopes.
$300 - $500 = OK
$500 - $700 = Good
$750 - $1000 = Very Good
$1000 -$2000 = Excellent
$2000 -$3500 = Unbelievable
$3500+ = I hope you make a living with it!

Yeah and the 2k-3k price point won't even get you a Tangent Theta. It's silly what they cost, but the ones that are worth it sell like hotcakes. You'll notice that the S&B, Vortex Gen 2, and NF ATACR all sell very high even used.

I find it funny when people drop 2-3X that on a hunt then wonder why they can't connect with a 500$ scope...

An alaska trip looks to cost 10-30k MIN...at that rate i want a scope i know can survive it there and back no matter what

I have owned several Khales scopes..

I might not own one long term, but for Africa or Alaska, buying one and selling it after would be good insurance. What’s a few hundred bucks on top of the $ of those trips.

I am going to be interested to see the actual specs- if the weight is on par or lower than 4-16ATACR could be a good alternative

Most def agree- i wonder if there would be enough demand to start a scope loan company- Rent some of the big boys under the premise of you don't shoot/hunt enough to justify buying one, but if you need one for a big trip its available.

Re: New kahles 3-18 - 01/15/18 05:53 PM

A rental company exists for observation optics. I don't see why it wouldn't work for rifle scopes.

My adjustments to your list?..
$300 - $500 = So so for a .22
$500 - $700 = bottom rung of possibly acceptable for a hunting scope, meaning decent glass.
$750 - $1000 = Getting to the more acceptable glass but not real good, still only for hunting scopes.
$1000 -$2000 = Really too big a spread but if you shop you can find a pretty decent scope.
$2000 -$3500 = Again too big a spread $ wise...3k+ is where you're gonna find really good scopes. If you shop you might find one that rates this much new for a little less used.
$3500+ Naw....but for me it'd be a one time buy...in other words it'd be the first one and the last one I'd spend that much for.

Try pricing out a Hensoldt...who needs that second kidney anyway?
