Vortex Crossfire II

So Cabelas has the Vortex Crossfire II 6-18x44 on sale for 129.99 and i am wanting to put a new scope on my 22-250 and was wondering if anyone has any experience with this scope both good and bad? want to know if its gonna be better than the nikon buckmasters 3-9x40 i have had on it now.

I was waiting for someone with that exact model to reply, but it's slow in here.

I only have 1 Crossfire II, and it's a 2-7 power. It sits on my truck gun. It's a nice scope for price. I like the finger adjustments instead of using a coin or a tool to adjust the reticle. The glass is as good as any other $150ish scope I've had. The warranty is superior. I sold a Bushnell Trophy and a Nikon Prostaff, but kept the Crossfire.

Of the two crossfire I've had neither one would track right or hold zero. I'd go something different but most of the cheaper scopes are mediocre at best.

I have one new in box that I have never even mounted. I'll sell it for $100 plus shipping.

I bought with the intention of mounting on .308, but not sure what I want now.

I personally would keep the Buckmaster scope on it. IMO the Buckmaster is a better scope. Cabela's's sells a ton of Crossfire scopes. I mounted many of them. The eye relief on them is the shortest of ANY scope I've ever mounted. The glass isn't any thing to write home about. This is based on my limited experience but you can get a serviceable 3-9 scope for $200.00 and under. You will have to spend much more to get a decent 6-18 scope.

You may also want to look into a Vortex Diamondback - you can find them for just a bit more than the crossfire, if you look around.
Cameraland NY has a 4x12x40 for $160. I have that on a couple rifles and like it.
Cslate - I had the same scope you have (Buckmaster) and upgraded to the VD 4x12x40 and feel it was a big improvement.

Thanks for all the replies. I know cheaper scopes are not gonna be the eww and all factor type scopes that most people want haha. I would really like to put a Swarovski or a Zeiss but I'm on a teachers salary and had twins in December to add to 2 other kids haha...so for right now it's really all about putting a serviceable scope on my gun so maybe I can kill a deer or two to get some cheap meat in the fridge so as we are gonna have to make cuts in places to afford 1200 dollars in daycare a month when school starts back

These two scopes in my opinion are as good as a VX-2. Many others sing their praises too. Free shipping and no tax. If you don't like it you can return it as long as it hasn't been mounted. I like these Minox scopes better than any other scope under 350.00.

I'd have to agree on the minox stuff. Some of the better for the money in my experience. Also consider the sig scopes as they are pretty impressive as well.

Never heard a thing about minox...have actually thought about dog scopes... problem I'm having is basically for the price range I'm gonna give something up either magnification or objective size. Gonna mostly be hunting white tails in central Texas in which 100-150 yard shot is the norm and then varmints and predators day and night mostly in central Texas with the occasional trip to the panhandle and north Texas...so what would you guys do

I've shot 3-9x40 out to 400 without issue but you know your eyesight better than we do. 100-150 I don't feel the need to have high magnification.

I have two rifles I hunt coyotes with. One wears a 3-9 Conquest, the other a 2-7 VX-R and I wear trifocals. To each his own but in that general class of Crossfire II, ProStaff, Fullfield II, etc. I feel the Crossfire is by far the worst scope anyway you want to measure it. I've mounted at least a hundred of them.

Is your Buckmaster the original model or a Buckmaster II? The original is a better scope than the II. My first choice would still be the Minox, second - Fullfield II, third - Vortex Diamondback. The glass on the Diamondback and Fullfield II are pretty much equal in good light but to my eyes the Burris is better in low light. YMMV.

The glass in the VT Diamondback HD is an upgrade and the same grade as used in the Vortex Viper HS series & has 4" eye relief instead of the standard D'Back's 3.3" or 3.5" , for not much more $$'s & IMO well worth the small $'s more too.

I really like my Minox ZV3 4.5x14 SF, and paid more than the price posted earlier...but my Minox ZV5 HD 2-10x50 30mm tube is the best hunting scope I ever owned, out of mebbe 50+ scopes over the years. Talk to Neil or Doug at CLNY....super guys who'll take the time to answer whatever you want to know. Best buy for the dime from them is the CLNY exclusive from Meopro in a 1" tube 3.5x10x? that uses the same german schott glass as Zeiss. CLNY has them made for them with some downgraded features at waaaay less $'s than the regular line of Meopta's.

I've run lots of the Burris FF II's when I got tired of paying Leupold prices 20-30 years ago and never had a problem with them, but IMO the FF II's technology is a little outdated. Great customer service too & fast turnaround.

Camera Land doesn't have the MeoPro 3.5-10x44 anymore. It is now being sold by Optics Planet.

That would be easy for me, I'd give up objective size. Big objectives are seriously overrated in my book.

GTK thx...I've bought all the scopes I need for the remaining shooters on hand, but had parked that MeoPro in the back of my mind for the go to on the next shooter after Cabella's ran that VT Viper HS 30mm tube deal about this time last year and spent my dime there 1st...dinnit need the 4x16x44 SF's upper power ranges but it fit's the M70 270 Sporters application, and the 2-10x44 is perfect on a T3, or the SS Marlin XL 7 270 (or a nib SS XS 7 7-08 I found) that'll now get a Minox ZV3 3x9x50 for a deep woods beater...but the HS 2-10x44 30mm looks like it'll wind up on the M70 XTR 7x57 and still maintain it's balance.

Any comments on doin' bidnizz with Optics Planet?, as I've never bought anything from them, but have bought stuff from CLNY for years and really like the way they do bidnizz, being able to talk to Doug directly...and get stuff drop shipped from the factory when they ran out of inventory on hand in the smallish for the volume store front on 5th Ave, besides I got to tease Neil about when he played in a rock band on weekends in Bergen County Jersey. I'd like to visit the the new store in Bethpage...but didn't leave anything in Manhatten I ever have to go get ever again.

I haven't purchased anything from them in a couple of years. They used to be notorious for showing something in stock then sending you an Email stating the item was back-ordered after they dinged your credit card. Happened to me. I will purchase from them when no one else has a product.

I always purchase from Camera Land if they have what want or can get. On the rare occasion they are higher than someone else it usually isn't by much and I still buy from them. The service they offer is so outstanding compared to others. The story I've heard from a credible source is that Optics Planet made Meopta a better offer for the MeoPro 3.5-10x44 and Meopta took the offer. Camera Land didn't get a chance to negotiate.

It'll be interesting to see if OP keeps the volume up and prices down on the MeoPro 3.5-10x44 as CLNY had had.

Gotta be hard to juggle all the little special things that sets a retailer apart from the competition during a major relocation like CLNY went thru moving from downtown NYC out to Bethpage on Lonnngggg GIIsland...and mfg'ers get greedy too if they think they can sell an extra dozen or so with another outfit. Don't miss doin bidnizz as a rep with NewYawk folks, and always wondering if you are gonna get paid or loose the line and your seed money every time you head out on a Monday for a week or more long trip on your own dime. BTDT and bought that lesson.

I have had great luck with my crossfires, they keep zero and I have hit steel at 700 yrds. (I am an average shot at best)

Opticsplanet and Eurooptics both show the Meopro 3.5-10 x 44mm as being discontinued. I bought one from Cameraland in 2015 for $315 ($35 off 1st order). It is one of my favorites.
