Sig Sauer Whiskey 5 initial report

Sig Sauer Whiskey 5 initial report - 01/01/17 04:02 AM

Got around to setting this up on a rifle. Rifle in question is a stock Tikka T3 308. Bore sighted on a neighbor's chimney top (106 yards off). One nice thing about these is the vertical adjustment (the top knob) allows you to set a 'sighted in' scope to zero.

Cleaned out the barrel to get any shipping gunk out (gunk is a technical term ya know) and headed to the reloading room.

I'll run about 10 rounds through it just to sight it in then start a load work up. Hoping to get out tomorrow. More after I've played with it some more.

Ok, I got a chance to take it to a friend's place today. Brought along some rounds I'd loaded for another rifle and got it sighted in. The scope is .25 MOA adjustments and they are quite accurate. Once sighted in, I started boxing the target and shot a center shot, then down 8 clicks and over 8 clicks etc. Though the ammo wasn't really for this Tikka I still ended up with a pretty good 'box' after all was done.
I knew the load was rather 'light' - 2570 fps with a 165 gr and we plugged it into a few different ballistics programs to play at some longer ranges.

The Sig Whiskey 5's turrets/ adjustment knobs allow you to set your scope for zero on both windage and elevation. I'd zero'd them at 100. The ballistic programs called for anywhere from 5.5 MOA drop to 11 MOA drop so I plugged it at 7 and adjusted for the 15 mph wind from 5 o'clock. first shot was slightly low and to the right.
Cranked it to 8 and added another .5 windage and the two of us proceeded to wear out a 12" gong at 350 yards.

I'll work on some actual loads for this rifle this week and try and take it out again this weekend and see if I can find a load.

All in all I'm impressed by the crisp adjustment and very clear, sharp optics this scope has. At my friend's place we can shoot out to 450 from his patio and if we go down to the river we can shoot out to 600, so some more playing will be in order to see how this scope works out.

Thanks, these scopes are really nice looking, seem to function well too.
