Screw torque

What is the torque for rail screws, ring cap screws and the nut for picatinny type scope rings? Also which to use green or blue thread locker? Lots to learn, thank you.

Depends on the manufacturer. But my SWFA rings are torqued to 30in lbs on the bolt and 18in lbs on the screws. My Burris PEPR is 40in lbs on the bolts and 25in lbs on the rings

25 in lbs is what the last two sets of ring caps have been based on instructions that either came with the rings or the scopes.

Aluminum rings 15 in-lbs max
Steel rings 20 in-lbs max
Bases 30 in-lbs
Seekins/Vortex rings recommend 45-50 in-lbs for their two base screws.
Action screws I've seen recommended broadly from 35 up to a precise 53 in-lbs for AICS

I use blue Loctite on the rings.

If you don't already have an inch pound torque wrench, the Borka ATD is great, little pricey, but I use it for all my rifles, and other small jobs. The Wheeler FAT is supposed to be pretty good too.

Cap screw torque depends on how many screws there are. Most 4 screw rings will range from 15-20 inch lbs

Base to action depends on if you are using 6-48 or 8-40s so 15-25 inch lbs respectively

Rings to base 45-60 inch lbs depending on material used in both sets

Action screws anywhere fro 30-80 inch lbs

You guys are great, thanks. The rings are DNZ 4 screw, 1/2 hex nut on rail cross bolt and the rail screws are 6-48tpi

Warne, Leupold and Burris state the inch pounds in the package.

On risers with a 1/2 " nut I normally see 65 inch pounds but I normally use 50 inch pounds. On base and ring screws most of the time it is 20-25 inch pounds. I use blue loctite on base screws and nothing on ring screws.
