ATN X-Sight II HD

ATN X-Sight II HD - 01/19/16 02:26 PM

It appears ATN is releasing the X-Sight II. Apparently, the MKII will have everything the first one was suppose to have other than updated electronics "core processor" and who knows what else.

They will update the Original X-Sight with the new software that will give it "most" of the functions of the new one. I guess I'm a little confused and/or curious what was suppose to be in the original and updated in the new.

roflmao
The first ones were such a success that I can see why they came out with a replacement model. Wonder how many hunters they will fool a second time. No ATN for me, period.

Are the BETA testers signing up before purchase or after like MK-I ?

Re: ATN X-Sight II ?? - 01/19/16 09:09 PM

Looks like now they have a thermal with all the same special features. Seems like same guts, just tied to a thermal core. I'd be happy to beta test if ATN wants to send me one, if all's good I'll buy it..

Re: ATN X-Sight II ?? - 01/20/16 02:05 AM

With out going into what was advertised and what actually was functional.... One of the big issues with the original was the viewing eye piece was subpar and did not match the sensor ability. If they moved to a HD screen means its will be minimum at 720HD compared to the 600 of the original thats a nice jump we are talking more than twice the detail with the new Viewer.

Anywho...

Well, after over a year of beta testing on consumers, the X-sight is getting to be a reasonable day/night digital optic, but it still doesn't do what it is advertised to do and probably never will, or won't do it well. The scope was something like 9 months or a year late from when they said it would be out. When it was released, various features would or would not work, the screen flickered, and it ate batteries like Gabriel Iglesias eats tacos. Then they started the firmware update regime, which was good or bad depending on whether or not they fixed something you didn't like and whether or not they deactivated something you did like. People had video but no audio. Some could not get SD cards to work. If you zoomed to far, you could zoom the crosshairs right out of the image. Image flicker at night. GPS didn't work. Wifi didn't work. Wifi worked but only partially. In the end, their super amazing billion cycle a second processor just isn't up to the task of running the offered features.

During all of this, a spokesperson from ATN was visiting THF. First came all the promises of the super amazing scope that would be out next month and then next month would come and it would be two months out, and then two months out and the scope isn't ready, but YOU, the consumer don't want a product that isn't perfect, he told us, and that ATN would not release unless it was right. This dragged on for months, then the product came out and when the problems started, he fielded some questions, then went into partial hiding and would send notes promising new firmware updates, many of which didn't materialize when promised, and now you virtually never see him on the forum anymore, I think because he got badgered by unhappy owners.

That is the brief history as I remember it, which brings us up to today, where the scope is mostly functional. Given the history of the X-Sight and how ATN handled the whole program, however, being first in line to buy the new X-Sight probably isn't a wise idea. WAIT UNTIL ALL THE BUGS ARE WORKED OUT!

I would hope they have working prototypes at the SHOT SHOW 2016 so whom ever is going should make sure to check out their booth.

wow i had not idea they were that screw up i seen the video of them using it and it look to good to be true i told my wife she agreed and i think that stuff take way from the hunting experian pushing a button to zero i mean it is like when we got the CROW systems of our truck in Iraq it was like a video game till ou ran out then ou have to get out in the middle of a fire fined and chang out amo boxes and a 50cal bill burn through 200rds like nothing what about the burris rangfineder scope that atomaticly calculates your hold over and windage up to 10mph do they work as avertidesd that looked net but gain i think it takes some of the skill out of hunting when all you need to do is pint at the anamilel push a button it figures your windage deg of angle up or down and older all you do is put the red dot on the target and pull the trigger i thing it will let people be over confident at longer rangers they didn't figure in the natural sway of the gun if you are off just a listed at 800-900 yards your going to be way off posable wounding the animal part of hunting is to make sure you can make a clean kill nothing worse then shooting something and have to look for it because you wounded it now you have to spend several hours looking for it and hope you fined it I had seen enough of it to last me 5 life times but it still is a cool idea and i think for target practice is good but i dont think they should be illegal to hunt with it you want to target shooting that just my opionone

Chemdog,

I like the range finding idea for the Burris scope but the windage is not automatic. It may help you calculate a possible windage, but it requires you to input the wind speed and direction for that. The next day when the wind blows the other direction it's completely off again.

I completely agree with your thoughts on long range hunting and that advertising unrealistic features can lead to over confidence and more wounded animals by people without the skills for those ranges.

Looks like basically the same Obsidian core, but a choice of 384 or 640 thermal sensor. They are calling it the ThOR HD. The HD is because it is part of their Smart HD product line. I think the HD indicates High Definition, but they aren't real clear on that. The X-Sight II claims to have a HD 1080p sensor, but the Micro Display in both the X-Sight II and ThOR HD is simply stated as "HD Display". Could be more shenanigans, who knows. Regardless, the casual observer would take the ThOR HD name and assume it has an HD core, but that isn't the case. Even if it has a high definition display, the original image is either 384 x 288 or 640 x 480
