Well, after over a year of beta testing on consumers, the X-sight is getting to be a reasonable day/night digital optic, but it still doesn't do what it is advertised to do and probably never will, or won't do it well. The scope was something like 9 months or a year late from when they said it would be out. When it was released, various features would or would not work, the screen flickered, and it ate batteries like Gabriel Iglesias eats tacos. Then they started the firmware update regime, which was good or bad depending on whether or not they fixed something
you didn't like and whether or not they deactivated something you did like. People had video but no audio. Some could not get SD cards to work. If you zoomed to far, you could zoom the crosshairs right out of the image. Image flicker at night. GPS didn't work. Wifi didn't work. Wifi worked but only partially. In the end, their super amazing billion cycle a second processor just isn't up to the task of running the offered features.
During all of this, a spokesperson from ATN was visiting THF. First came all the promises of the super amazing scope that would be out next month and then next month would come and it would be two months out, and then two months out and the scope isn't ready, but YOU, the consumer don't want a product that isn't perfect, he told us, and that ATN would not release unless it was right. This dragged on for months, then the product came out and when the problems started, he fielded some questions, then went into partial hiding and would send notes promising new firmware updates, many of which didn't materialize when promised, and now you virtually never see him on the forum anymore, I think because he got badgered by unhappy owners.
That is the brief history as I remember it, which brings us up to today, where the scope is mostly functional. Given the history of the X-Sight and how ATN handled the whole program, however, being first in line to buy the new X-Sight probably isn't a wise idea. WAIT UNTIL ALL THE BUGS ARE WORKED OUT!
