Which Scope to get

Which Scope to get - 12/08/15 08:19 PM

Posted this in the firearms section to get input on caliber. I think I am set on the 7mm08 just need to get a scope

Wanting to know what optics you would recommend in the under $700 price point. Wanting to know brand, magnification, reticle, etc...

Forgot to add I will be shooting anywhere from 100yds to 5-600yds. Would like a scope that required little knowledge of how high to aim... Basically if I could range an animal at 100-600 yards, make adjustment to scope and aim with center cross hair that would be ideal if possible...

So just to be clear, you want to be able to use the turrets to dial your elevation, and not just hold the crosshair high.

I would like to have the rifle set up for a 100 yard shot. If I range an animal and its outside of that i would prefer to be able to adjust the turrets and hold the cross hairs on the animal where I want to hit v's knowing how high to aim.

So yes, what you said!

I think this is the scope I'll be buying soon. I have the same desires as you in a scope.

I would jump straight into this bad boy, SWFA SS 3-15x42, I have one just like it, great quality and tracks good too.

Re: Which Scope to get - 12/11/15 06:04 PM

I'm just starting to get into higher prices scopes, meaning more than like $200-250. So got the swfa scope list above I'm still not 100% convinced I "have to have" first focal plane. I totally get that it's useful and conveinent but don't think it's a must have. However, mil/mil or even moa/moa is what I found to be most useful. Unfortunately u pay extra for that feature but right within your budget.

I want to switch my leupold vx3 on my hunting rifle to the vortex hs-t models because they offer mil/mil.

Check out Shepherd Scopes. I 100% guarantee you it is the easiest and most reliable scope you can buy and sight in.

Google it and the reviews on You Tube. I promise you you can't buy a better scope for Killing.

Vortex makes some great scopes. Mine tracks perfectly, it is above your price range, but they have plenty that are in your price range. They will replace the scope even if you break it. This one is a first focal plane scope, and I choose the MOA reticle.

If you want to know if something works give it to Helomech. He will run it thru the ringer and tell you the truth.

The SWFA is also a great choice.

Re: Which Scope to get - 12/14/15 03:10 PM

find a smoking deal on a Bushnell LRHS 3-12x44
seriously
Me and one of the staff guys both run one on our 308 ARs for hunting.
I own, have owned and tested just about everything out there including stuff that costs 3 times as much.
Same with him and we both hunt with them.
I have ran mine out to 1k with no problems whatsoever
Hard for me to admit it but Bushnell made a scope that is at the top of the heap

Busted a doe at 412 yards Saturday evening with it.
Range, calculate, dial, squeeze, dead.

I am a dealer for Steiner and am recommending a Bushnell.
Why? Because it is the best tool for the job at a price that makes it impossible to ignore.
