New gun , need a new scope old argument

I'm leaning towards a NF F1 to go on my predator / long range gun. I'm 99% a hunter but don't want to hurt myself if I ever got a wild hair to do a competition

I'm having a struggle choosing the old mil vs Moa debate. I think and hunt in yards

I'm torn

What I've always used and what my pea brain understands

MOA for me as well. Been using MOA since I bought my first scope, tried and used MIL but MOA is burned into this brain.

Never heard of a MIL/MIL shooter brag about their rifles shooting MIL or shoot at MIL targets. Usually hear half MOA, MOA, 2XMOA when talking about groups and targets.

BIL, if you have used MIL in the past then go that route.
If you are comfortable with MOA then go with MOA.
If you are an old pro at dialing elevation and holding for wind then either one will work.
If you are newer to long range shooting then use the same system that your hunting and shooting buddies use that way everyone is speaking the same language.

I'm sure that someone will chime in about how MIL is faster to dial and its based on ones and tenths and someone else will argue about how MOA is a finer measurement and is easier to use with yards but in the end it really does't matter. After all, they are both just methods to measure angles and both will put you in the bullseye. If you know and understand one of them it's pretty easy to learn the other.

I have used both for quite a few years but now use MOA almost exclusively because of the rangefinder I have.

Hey BIL, what did you end up doing? I have sure been interested in the F1 as well, still a " new to the scene" optic. My wife offered to buy me one for Christmas, which kind of making me feel guilty, scope isn't cheap and compares well to the vortex gen 2, but much lighter ( and far less reticle choices).

I damn near pulled the trigger yesterday, then I sobered up a bit What is getting me, is the fact that the F1 tunnels at around 5.5-7x, so effectively you are buying a 7x25 For just under 3k, they should have never released it with that problem, especially since it is /has a fix.

Other than that detail, me wants one Love to have more scope than I know how to use and realize if I went with the MOARt, pretty much wont be allowed on Jasons range, so......

Go back and look at the picture I texted you for your wind holds in Mil and MOA. Which has the easier pattern to remember? You just bought an ATACR in Mil, I can't believe you are even considering another scope in MOA. Once you learn Mil, you will shoot with your brain thinking in Mil.

Meters or yards has absolutely zero to do with either system, zero. Both are trig functions, thereby operating in angles that evenly divide up a circle. Elevation correction for both is equally easy, wind correction for Mil is way eaiser. 95% of the guys I've taught came out with some version of MOA and left planning on selling them and going to Mils. I don't sell them anything, but show them the difference in wind holds for both systems, and they decide for themselves. Until you come out and send lead a half mile with your Mil scope, don't buy a second scope. I'm very confident of what you will do, and it won't be buying an MOA scope.

The old veteran shooter Chad has switched from MOA to Mil and told you to go Mil.
