G7 BR2 new 2015 model - 10/01/15 01:34 PM

Anyone put the new G7 rangefinders thru the paces yet?
I have used the older version and was disappointed mainly in the fact it would not consistently hit objects and the fact it did not accept mil only MOA.
The newer version now handles mil and supposedly has a tighter beam diversion so ranges further and quicker or so they say.

I haven't tried the G7, but one that I am very interested in is the new one that SWR came out with...it's called the Radius. MSRP of $999.

I have played with it, but the beam divergence is still way to big for what they are claiming as its effective ranging distance.

I can only say that I have used the Leica HD-B and and was quite impressed with the ranging and their ballistic program is not bad but I needed one that also included Mil not just MOA.
The Leica has a horizonal type beam divergence of 2.7 x1.5 mrad while the new G7 has the same as the Bushnell ConX which is a vertical beam of 1.5x 3.0 so it should do pretty well out to 1500 or better in good condtions which would be great for most hunting applications I would run into.

If I need to go farther than that I will drag out the Terrapin and the Kestrel I reckon.

well....got one and programed it for three cartridges but only got to play with it a little late yesterday.
I only ranged out to 915 yards but did manage to get off 3 shots two at steel and one crow before it got too late. The crow landed between the steel at 420 yards and the one at 505 yards and I ranged it at 448 yards. Took the shot and must have either nicked it or bullet spray wounded it as it fluttered off to the brush.
That was with my 22DTi AR(6.8SPC necked down) running 75gr AMax at 3050fps. I took a shot with it using dope from the rangefinder on steel at 688 yards and touched the right edge of the 3 inch bull....so far so good.
Now to play with it and range some critters at longer ranges to see what it will and won't do.

one other note....I set it on the Near setting which is designed to let you range objects that have say trees or a hill behind the object you want to focus on. The RF then reads out the background distance and then brackets show in the screen and another yardage(shorter) shows you the nearer object distance you are trying to hit.
Example: I had steel at 821 with a hill at 915 yards behind it. It would show 915 then brackets pop into screen and then read 821 yards which was my intended target. Seemed to work well but need to play with it more.
