Leupold VX-2 9x40 mm opinions - 08/04/15 01:21 AM

I bought this when I bought my Tikka 3 lite. I t was on sale for 299 I think. Not overly impressed. Seems I'm always adjusting it at the range, takes a while for me to focus. Maybe my eyes are getting worse and operator error. Any opinions on this scope? Bout ready to move it to my 22 and move on to something else. What's good replacement for about 500 or so? Looking for ease of use, better magnification and clarity...Or is it a really good scope that I'm not using properly?? Thanks, N

The VX2 scopes are great scopes for the money.
What other scopes do you have to compare it to?

If having to adjust each range session, then your mounts are suspect or you could possibly have a bad scope tat needs to be sent back to Leupold.

Sounds like you may not have gotten a good one for whatever reason. I'd send it in, I've never seen a Leupold that wasn't quality. Bet when you get it back you'll love it. I don't know that for $500 you'll get anything clearer. OpticsPlanet.com has the 3.5-10x40 VX3 for $499 and the 4.5-14x40 for $549 if you want to upgrade a bit or get more magnification and I think they have a promo code to save you even more.

The VX-IIs had a locking ring for the ocular and the VX-2s do not, which I do not like at all. The glass is very good but I personally prefer an ocular I can lock down. Even so, you might try carefully following the instructions for focusing the ocular. It's very easy to misadjust it. Once you get it right you might like the scope a lot better.

In a nutshell, don't focus on a target. Focus the ocular so that the reticle is as clear as you can get it while looking at something featureless, like the sky.
