Researching spotting scopes

First off, I really like my Japanese made Vortex Viper HD's. I got the 8x42 model for a steal at cabelas a few years ago. These bino's paired with a Zeiss t-prf do well together until I can get my hands on a pair of leica HD-b's.

However, I'm looking at getting a spotting scope for glassing the ranch for pigs. It's easy to pick out a sounder with my bino's, but it is harder to spot that lone boar in the brush. I'm glassing fields and trees at around 12-1300 yards. It keeps a few miles off my boots when I get into a nice high position to glass over different areas of the ranch.

I have zero experience with a spotter. My instinct tells me to pick up the vortex razor 11-33 straight. I will be packing this spotting scope around the ranch, along with all my other crap. What do you guys use out in the field? Any suggestions?

To me, size is the big question mark. The larger scopes are clearly more effective and my ideal spotter is probably something like:

What size optic are you willing to transport, and what's your price range?

Wow, that doctor spotting scope is something else. I bet the tripod to support that beast has to be massive.

I'm betting the Razor 11-33 you're considering will do what you want it to do. I agree with the straight body. The angled does not allow two eyes open scanning. My rifle scopes go to 20X and 24X, so 33X to 1200 yards should do the job. And as you know the Razor glass is terrific, which is the most vital feature of all the features of any optic. Sure the 20-60X 80mm is bigger and better, but not for packing around. It is a fantastic scope, but it is very large.

I have the 11-33 razor straight. Love it. I mainly bought it for bowhunting the mountains out west and a truck SS for when I'm in the panhandle. In texas one of the places I hunt, I can glass and shoot up to 1700 yards from the porch. It's a valley and the far side is a large mountain. It works well for my applications, but increases your glassing time. The only draw back to the 11-33 is it has a very narrow feild of veiw at full power, compared to a 65mm or 80-85mm or your bino's. Power wise the 11-33 works great to about 1.5 miles

The size makes it very handy, but there have been several times I had wished I'd brought my 65 or a bigger SS, because your glassing time is cut in half.

I am debating if I could use the 11-33 for double duty...range scope and in the blind. I am only worked abou fov versus binos in the blind

You can see splashes on metal at 400 but on paper it's tough. 400 is about the limit on bullet holes
