Armasight thermal Scope – Any regrets???

Armasight thermal Scope – Any regrets??? - 04/08/15 06:00 PM

I’m looking at the getting the Armasight Zeus 2 640-30 42mm Thermal Weapon Sight, for what I’m going to use if for it seems to have the best “value” on paper. I can get the Zeus 2 1.8x optical magnification for right around $5,000. ATN has the ThOR 640 1.5X Thermal Weapon Sight for around $5,800.

My question is for the Armasight owners: do you have any regrets or issues with your Armasight Thermal scope and if you have do it again and money IS an issue, would you still pick the Armasight.

Double Naught Spy uses one and likes it. They had issues initially, but everything seems to be working right now. I would suggest a bit more mag as ID gets difficult at any distance with anything under 3X. The Armasight you listed has a 17 micron FLIR core. Before you make a final decision, you need to look at an IR Defense. The displays are awesome and they are running the new BAE 12 micron cores. Might have to bank a bit more coin, but definitely worth considering.

Here I spent the past two weeks looking over thermal scopes and hadn't heard about this IR Hunter before. Looking at it, I like the knob Vs button menu selection, and they claim their 320 chip or core or whatever, views like a 640 in other brands. Thanks for your post.

Cheers

The Armasight is a plenty nice product. I'd just say that we all need to check them all out before we buy and that can be hard to do. The sight picture on the 12 micron core is extremely nice. IR Defense also has another product on the way which will be called the Patrol. It is even smaller and can be used as a dedicated scope, a clip on or helmet mounted.

I do know that Tyler at Ultimate Night Vision has an IR Defense MKII in the rental pool if you want to try before you buy...and he applies the price of the rental to the purchase.

Oh, and yes, the turrets (knobs) are excellent... up

I did quite a bit of research before I bought mine last week.....I went with the new IR Hunter MK II 640/2.5x.

I do like my Zeus just fine. The only regrets is that prices are falling. I got a good deal on it and now retail has dropped below what I paid 6 months ago and what I paid 6 months ago was about $4K less than it was the previous year. More competition, less military contracts, FLIR dropping the prices of their microbolometers, etc. have all really helped drive down prics.

If I were buying today, I would go with a Zeus (640) or IR Hunter MKII (640). I prefer the Zeus because of operational differences, but they are both good choices.

Have the Zeus 5 326 Core 75mm for about 1 year with excellent results. Couldn't be happier with the detail and resolution but better deals are coming with more competition.

I have the 3x 640 75mm 30hz Zeus like DNS does. Have no regrets.

I also had the 2x 640 42mm 30hz for a hunt week before last with the Pure Hunting TV show. It worked really well.

Here are a couple of boars I took after the guys from the show left, not ideal conditions, was 88 degrees, still about an hour before dark, 65% humidity. Click on the resolution to up it as it was processed in HD, however none of these scope are digital, merely D1 analog out:
