G7 BR2 Rangefinder

OK now that my computer is working I can type. Ignore the T in the previous thread. I'm thinking of getting the G7 BR2 rangefinder, does anyone on here have one. GOOD? NO?

I have read nothing but good things about them. As long as you can read the wind or carry a kestrel, it should be a game changer. I am waiting on mine now.

Yeah so am I, I use the G7 app and it works great after some tweaking. I even chrono my rounds mostly for deviation but helps to know if your configuring drop data but even with the exact fps inputted its still off .5 / .75 MOA without validating the data on the G7 program. At least you can do the same with their rangefinder.

The deal breaker for me with the G7 is that they only make one in MOA (at least that was the case last time I checked). My scopes are in mils, so it's not ideal.

There was a guy on Facebook a while back, went by the name of Bryce Wells and ran a company/show called Long Range Addiction. He ended up being a liar, a fake, a scammer, etc and everyone found out he wasn't at all who he claimed to be. Somehow he was sponsored by companies like Kelbly's and March...but he has since been dropped by all sponsors to my knowledge.

During his time on Facebook he claimed to be in the process of building a range finder. This was going to be a 2 part system that would compete with the Vectronix Terrapin in quality, and Bryce claimed his unit had very similar beam divergence to the Vectronix units (which are $$$$$$). Bryce was also making 2 units, one for ranging out to 1600 yds and one for 2500 yds. Each unit would come with a hand held rangefinder and a rail mounted ballistic calculator that would display the range and what to dial for elevation and maybe some other data.

He also claimed this thing was far superior to the G7 unit. And the price was right: ~$1100 for the 1600 yd model and $1600 for the 2500 yd model (IIRC). Let me tell you, I was looking forward to it.

Now, there's no telling if it is ever even going to exist but I sure wish it would show up at SHOT.

I have been using one for about two years now and have quite a bit of confidence in it. It is so accurate that I don't use drop charts or ballistic calculators in the field any longer. As long as the data you input is accurate it will return an accurate correction. With its built in barometric pressure sensor, temperature sensor and inclinometer it will correct the dial up it gives you based on air density and shot angle. You only need add correction for spin drift for the really long shots. Like MacDaddy pointed out, it uses MOA and is really no good for shooters with Mil/Mil scopes.

It range animals much further out than any other rangefinder I have used in the past including Leica and Swarovski (though in my opinion the Swarovski has better optics). If you are trying to range an animal way out there it's hard to get an accurate measurement hand holding it. It is better to steady it on shooting sticks or rest it on top of the scope and range the animal at least twice to make sure the yardage is accurate. It does have settings for near and far that help make it easier to pick the target you are trying to range. I have been able to get accurate ranges on pronghorns and deer at over 900 yards as long as I could keep it steady enough. It even was able to range a speed limit sign at over 1400 yards.

I have used the G7 enough to know it's adequate but not the be all end all for sure. I think the newer Lecia HD-B RF binos are overall better but that is only based off other folks reports.

As fast as Kelby's chimed in on that meltdown I bet there is something in the works but one never really knows with the internet.

I have thought about emailing Kelbly to see if they have any information about the rangefinder. Might do that today.
