Nikon Prostaff 5 vs. Monarch 3

I've started shopping around for a different scope for my 30-06, and was curious about the Nikons. Long story short, I'm pulling my 3x9-50 Redfield off and putting it on my wife's 22-250. I put a 4x12-40 redfield on hers at the beginning of the season, and its just not enough light for her, so I'm giving her mine and getting me a new one

What's so different between the Prostaff 5 and the Monarch 3 scopes?

I htink the biggest difference is the glass and the coatings, both are good scopes (or were0 havent bought any in a few years. Im looking at a Prostaff for my wife's christmas present to top off her new deer rifle. And with the availbility of the Nikon using custom elevation turrets and getting away from the BDC reticle I think its a better option, but still not the best. I dont know why Nikon can't/wont put in a milling reticle

That's kind of what I was thinking. I've read that both have non fog lenses, blah blah and for the limited stuff I have gotten to read about the two, it just seemed like the monarch had the coating. Is it really worth the extra $$ for it? I highly doubt someone will allow me to take the two scopes I'm looking at, and try both out in a field test haha

I've been fairly happy with my Redfield 3x9-50, but this past weekend my wife shot a hog with her gun, and the first words out of her mouth afterwards was "this scope sucks!" lol. I put a Redfield 4x12-40 on hers and the field of view on hers isn't that great.

I had her look through mine, and she liked it MUCH better. So after season, I'm putting mine on her gun and looking to buy me a new scope.

I have the pro staff 5 on my 30-06 and love it. (target shooting only so far, clear skies and sunny. So light transmission was optimal) I have a date in PA the first week of Dec for deer gun season so as of now I can not say how the scope performs in the field and weather conditions. I never considered the monarch due to price difference and the pro staff was in my budget and I based my opinions on the scope from looking through nikon's bino's out in the field (yes two different animals in optics but I lucked out on my choice). Good luck with your research maybe check with your buddies and see what they are running and if they will let you try their scopes out.

I've only got one buddy with a Nikon prostaff and I liked it. The scope he has isn't the exact one I'm looking at, but I was impressed. I believe his was a 3-9x40 bdc, but not positive. I do know it wasn't a 50mm objective. I was hoping to ask the "scope expert" at cabelas a few weeks ago, but he was tied up and I didn't feel like waiting another 30 minutes or so just to see what the difference was.

The two I've been looking at are the Prostaff 5 3.5-14X50 BDC and the Monarch 3 4-16x50 BDC. I've looked through the prostaff I in question, but they didn't have the monarch in stock at the time, but there's also only so much you can tell by a scope while looking inside the store...

Mine is the 3.5-14x 40 BDC and like I said before during ideal conditions the light the glass lets in in very very good.

ZK 315 the best field test I do is out to cabelas take 2 - 3 scopes to the parking lot and use natural light just before sunset

I have this scope and like it, but the reticle is a bit busy. Wish the thin xhair in the center was wider. The 40 also seems small for some reason when I'm looking through it.

My wife's 4-10x40 redfield seems really small as well. I'm def looking at a 50
