If you live in Abilene you should know this - 03/17/13 01:47 AM

There are 2 local, independent gun shops that have told and keep telling the local media that they are in favor of Universal Backround checks.

What the heck is going on here? bang

Well, if they don't have any inventory to sell, they need the income from the transfers.

Either way, I would never darken their doorstep again.

We talk on these forums about how guns don't kill people, people kill people, yet we complain about closing loopholes so nut jobs have a harder time getting guns? We can't have it both ways anymore.

Nut jobs are going to find a way to get guns background checks or not.

please educated yourself on this matter

the Democratic push for universal background checks is all about creating a national gun registration

76,142 individuals failed a gun purchase background check in 2010.
19 percent of the denials (13,862) were based on the applicant being a fugitive from justice.
Another 2.5 percent (1,923) involved felons and unlawful firearms possession.
Only 13 of the 76,142 failed background checks resulted in guilty pleas

the Feds only prosecuted 13 out of all of those thousands of people who were illegally trying to get a gun.
and now they want us to think that a universal back ground check is what they want to stop people from getting guns?!

Sen Schumer has said it himself that part of the unviversal check will be that every gun ran through the system will be retained in a national database.

Why, so some newspaper can file a FOI act and print the names?
So some hacker from a foreign country and get the list?

I'm surprised at the ignorance and apathy of some of you.
Are you even in the NRA and if you are do you keep yourself up of these matters?
I have already read through the proposed bill that the Sen Judiciary Committee passed and want to become law

according to it, there will also be a new federal tax in place when you take a gun to a dealer for the transfer when you want to sell your gun to a friend. Is that what you want?

If you give your gun to a friend while at his house so he can mount a scope on it, you both just broke the federal law
IS that what you want?

Loopholes?

I gave my grand daughter a pink 22 caliber Cricket for Christmas a few years back, is that the loop holes that you speak of. I guess from now on, I will have to run a back ground check on her.

you're missing the point.

it's absurd that the act has been made into a crime in the first place

the gov't taking what should be a normal legal thing and making it a tool to restrict our rights with.

This has nothing to do with change of ownership, letting someone use your weapon or work on it is not a change on ownership. No transfer needed.

obviously, you did NOT read the Senate Bill that passed the Judiciary Committee a few days ago

it defines what a "transfer" is

they go into handing a gun over that counter at a gun shop, loaning a gun to another person at a gun range.
You need to read the bill, it's only 15 pages
this is the crap I'm upset about these gun store saying they are not opposed to

apathy and ignorance will get us in the end

this bill is just a foot hold and a tool for a national registry.

can anyone guess what might happen after the guns are registered?

For crying out lound, this bill was sponsored by Sen Chuck Schumer of NY. Do you trust him?

"Iowa Sen. Charles Grassley, the top Republican on the panel, said he believes the measure will ultimately lead to a federal registry of gun owners -- which is illegal. Schumer said that wouldn't happen"

why don't some of you read this bill?

the meat of the bill starts about page 11

Some of you are missing the point. This is ALL about establishing a database of gun owners and/or inventory. Then once they can find a way to pull off a gun confiscation along the lines of what they did in Australia they will know where to look for guns. It's a long-term plan and a hidden agenda...

Absolutely truth! This goes for ANYTHING the government tries to prohibit. Look at the "War on drugs". That has been a dismal failure and huge waste of taxpayer dollars. Or, how about alcohol prohibition? That went quite well didn't it?

If someone wants a gun, they will find a way to get one. Criminals don't care about the law...

It is just another tool the government is trying to use to control us. If we allow them to disarm us then they can and will control us.

I don't have a Facebook account and don't want one, but if I did, I'd like to post something on their pages about this BS stir

Those two shops have had 2k ARs and overpriced ammo from the start. And B&B is building a new shop with an indoor range on treadaway soon...on the backs of those big profits.

I didn't know that one, either way, I won't be going back to buy from them anywhere they are. As long as they support laws that restrict the 2nd Amendment and hand over our freedoms to people like Chuck Schumer

There is nothing that those guys have that I can't get online or in Field and Stream in San Angelo, now thats a gun shop
