Droptine buck just showed up across a canyon. Hes on our hit list. Hes probably 400 yards and walking the opposite direction. If he turns around and comes back Im shooting him. Time to break out my mojo bone and voodoo doll and conjure him this direction.

Cold north wind this morning in Coleman about 15 to 20 mph. 6 point on the feeder early then 2doe walk by the feeder with a nice 8 point behind them. The Doe kept going and the 2 bucks ate together with no interest in the doe. I saw a buck chasing Friday night coming in but looks like the rut is not in full swing yet.

Met my neighbor at the saloon last night. We shut her down. Felt good to sleep in, besides, it looks cold outside. Headed out this evening. Wind out of the north will let me hunt my favorite stand.

Re: Who’s in the stand this morning? - 11/19/18 02:12 AM

Well close but no cigar. Saw 4 doe and 3 bucks right after 5:00 PM. 3 yr old 8 pt has tempted me for 2nd time this year. I passed him but it was hard. He is really nice. The other 2 bucks were small. I think one was maybe a legal spike, but I didn't study too hard with a nice 8 standing there.

Fun evening, seeing deer. No feeder, just hunting some bottom land hay pasture that doesn't get much pressure.

Re: Who’s in the stand this morning? - 11/19/18 02:32 AM

No cell reception but I was in the blind this morning again. 10+ does, 2 spikes , 4 pt, 7 pt, 8 pt, 10 pt, 2 javalina. Gave all a pass except for the coyote.

Headed out in a an hour. Saw a 3pt (one unbranched antler), his spike was bloody, checked cameras and got a pic of him fighting an 8pt. Guess I'll probably find a dead buck out there. Happens quite often. One of the problems with having more bucks than doe. Good luck today fellas.

Those deer can inflict a lot of damage to each other.
The buck I posted the other day had a deep scar from his ear down to mid neck, that was healed over from a past fight from a year or two before, and he somehow survived.

Just got to the house. I had one of the prettiest 8pts I've ever seen on our place at my #6 stand. He came out right at dark. Worked his way towards my stand and ate road corn, eyeing the 6 doe across the fence. Then started running back and forth chasing them. 16" wide,19"" tall and heavy for our area. Chocolate horns. Awesome deer. I just couldn't get him over 3.5 years old though. I passed. I rode the 4 wheeler to the stand BTW.

My deer app shows the next 3 days to be prime with the activity supposedly from 11:00 - 2:00 PM each day. Surprisingly the app has been pretty good about predicting optimal feed times (based on lunar activity), albeit it doesn't take in to account he rut. I'm going to put it to the test tomorrow through Sunday.

Maybe go to each feeder, manually trigger and give it 30 minutes. Then move to next feeder and so on at lunchtime. food

Son-in-law sat with us this morning. Decent mature hill country 8 decided to go harass a smaller buck and left the feeder and started heading toward the alfalfa bale I'd put out to the left. I asked if he was sure he didn't want to use my rifle and shoot him. He said okay and pole axed him at about 60 yards. 'First deer he's killed in 30+ years. A good morning.
