How big is the place? East of there between Ringgold is very good hunting but need big acreage to let them grow. If you have wheat it can be golden.

It’s 200 acres no wheat. But I could put in a food plot. Property is over grown with native grasses and a big draw leading to a creek. Which looks to be a traveling corridor. Seen fresh tracks but still worried about density level and potential growth on 200acres.

If you have cover, you have deer.
I hunt near Henrietta and there are some really good deer in the area! It'll depend on the hunting pressure around you but I'd go for it, if nothing else you should be able to shoot a bunch of hogs.

Feed like crazy, maybe plant a food plot. That area has potential for good deer.

Some nice deer in that area. Hunting on 200 acres though you really have zero control of management, growth, etc. As said above lease it, hunt it, shoot some hogs and maybe you'll luck into a big buck.

I have a long time family friend that grew up in Henrietta. He said when he was a kid/HS (50's and 60's) there were absolutely no deer in Clay County.
A lot depends on how much cover there is for them.

Gentlemen I really appreciate the info. I will lease the property. Their is 2 ponds on the property so that may help. Good luck to you all this hunting season.

That is correct for most north and west Texas counties. Crazy. Pretty sure there was not much brush back then either. The gov used to spray a lot too for the ranchers I believe.
If there are ponds that also adds duck hunting to the menu! I duck hunt around Henrietta and you can get some pretty cool mixed bags from time to time!!

His dad worked for Lone Star Gas. We had access to some of THE BEST dove hunting I have ever participated in. I was spoiled as kid when it came to dove hunting.

I was on a place in Clay County but only stayed on one year because of the hunting pressure on the deer. And there are a lot of hogs!

Hunted in Quanah last year. Saw deer every sit but never pulled the trigger. I could see tower stands in every direction. The pressure on those poor deer is unbelievable. Biggest buck I saw was about 120”

Biggest deer I saw on the hoof last year was in Clay. 150 to 160 inch. But like I said, big acreage near the river. Ranch over 10K acres so 13 guys is not too much pressure. They take a few 150 to 160s a year. Ranches next to them are large too. I think as you go west they get smaller land holdings so more pressure.
