Runnels County hunting around Pumphrey

Hello,I may have an opportunity to get on a place near Pumphrey in Runnels County.Do any of you guys know anything about the area?I know this particular place is supposed to be pretty well wooded and surrounded by farm land.Any knowledge will be helpful.

They grow a lot of winter wheat around there. If you have a wheat field on the place, that’s your ticket. If you don’t, you’ll enjoy watching all the deer on the neighbors place.

For West Texas deer, they have decent sized bodies from all of the agriculture. Racks aren’t typically very impressive, though 120’s can be had. Numbers can be hit or miss, depending on available cover, but they’re strong, for the most part. This is meat hunting country, mostly.

Pigs have been moving in and are taking over quickly. If they aren’t there now, they will be very soon.

Dove hunting is great. The white wings will flock in huge numbers going to and from the milo fields south of Winters. They have flyways along 83, but they’re all over.

Just depends on what you are looking for in a lease. Without knowing details it’s hard to say if it would be a good place or not.
