Re: Monster buck near Valley Mills - 12/02/17 04:18 PM

I might be wrong but that deer appears to have Northern genetics so I'm going to have to be a little on the not sure side.

What does the genetics on this 181 inch Buck look like?

Re: Monster buck near Valley Mills - 12/02/17 04:46 PM

Look at the end of some of those tines, they are bulbed like pen raised deer which are constantly hitting their tines on feeder tubes. This is just my thought. Very nice buck!

Buck 25-06, that is a great buck, lots of mass and dark horned. I would say Mexico

That's very common on mule deer out here and they are definitely not pen raised

Re: Monster buck near Valley Mills - 12/02/17 11:48 PM

They don't get that way from bumping feeder tubes. Just thick tines is all. Does look like a HF buck though.

Re: Monster buck near Valley Mills - 12/03/17 12:56 AM

I agree could be a pen raised deer. There a few point that are a little rounded off. They also lack good color in antlers like a pen raised deer.

Re: Monster buck near Valley Mills - 12/03/17 01:30 AM

I’d bet money that’s a pen raised deer. Maybe he shot it free range for one reason or another, but that ain’t no native, free range raised deer.

People are surprised to see the size of these Bosque River bucks, but there is at least one that shows up nearly every year. Last year, two bucks in a field along Hwy 6 near Baylor Camp Road stopped traffic....two 112 point monsters grazing!

There are some giants out in that area but we do have some experts on here too

Re: Monster buck near Valley Mills - 12/03/17 02:41 AM

this is a legit deer. rumor has it that several bucks got out of a nearby high fence ranch a couple of years back. A friend of mine killed a 170 plus right up the road 2 years ago on a 2 acre place.

Re: Monster buck near Valley Mills - 12/03/17 02:47 AM

Congrats to him but I would doubt that deer was a true native born deer myself.

My family memeber lost quiet a few, bad rain storm and swing gate got washed out from a bunch of junipers. It was in valley mills. Definaltely looks like some hf genetitecs. Great deer either way. What a trophy for low fence.

Someone showed me that pic when I was in Waco yesterday. Beautiful animal but hard to believe that deer is not from a HF. Lots of hunting pressure and small tracts of land out there.

Re: Monster buck near Valley Mills - 12/03/17 09:16 PM

As many little high fencers there are in bosque I would be really shocked if it was native.

Re: Monster buck near Valley Mills - 12/04/17 04:06 AM

Lots of high fences in the area now, ted nugents place is not far from there, probably some genetics from some that got out.

If it's a pen-raised deer that escaped, he's not legit. Holes or tattoos in the ears would disqualify him from being considered a native, low-fenced buck. Now, if he were a pasture born deer that escaped that high-fenced ranch, that's another story. But I agree with the board that deer has some northern genetics in him.

I was under the impression that you have to have 10 acres to hunt. Am I wrong?

Re: Monster buck near Valley Mills - 12/05/17 09:14 PM

Congrats to the hunter on a nice deer. And yes, just looking at the buck, I would suspect he has some juiced DNA running through his veins. Not a slam in anyway, I would have pulled the trigger in a heartbeat, but knowing the area, guessing this is an escapee, or the offspring of an escapee. Just up HWY 6 toward Meridian there are several pretty well-known White Tail breeders.

Re: Monster buck near Valley Mills - 12/05/17 09:20 PM

According to the FB site this was posted on, it was not shot in Bosque county but next to it. Seems like an escapee that grew a few years.

I believe thats only in Harris county around Houston, might be a few other cities I'm not aware of that have an ordinance like that. Heard of one guy who owns 5 acres bordering granger that kills a giant every year.

He's got a tag in his ear, not free range unless he was released or got out.

Re: Monster buck near Valley Mills - 12/09/17 07:28 PM

I hunt near a high fenced ranch and I've seen does on our place with ear tags.....And yes they were slightly larger than the other does they were with.
I've gotten to be fond of hunting near high fenced managed ranches.
