Mills County Chasing has begun around Golthwaite

Just got back from lease seen some younger nice 10s and alot of spikes and forkey deer sniffing and sparring and even one 10 had the doe held in a corner from 7am to noon sat morning

I had a picture mid week last week of a small 8 chasing a doe. I had a picture this morning of a young 12 and young 10 rubbing antlers together before eating corn together.

What part of the county do you hunt?

They are are just harassing it will really heat up in a couple weeks

Yep, the first does coming in. It's always full blown the first weekend of rifle season. I've watched mature bucks breed does several times on opening weekend. I think it cranks up a little earlier than most folks realize. A few years back, I watched a breeding party of seven bucks with a single doe around 10/15. Thanks for sharing.

The cold rain right before the bow opener seemed to trigger them a bit. We hunted MLD last year around 10/20 and saw a fair bit of action with some lockups. It used to really get going around 11/13-11/17 but it seems that is shifting earlier. I wouldn't miss the rifle opener, for sure.

I have been seeing dead deer all week hit by cars. I counted 8 dead on the way to Abilene Tuesday and I saw two 8 points on Wednesday that were about 3 miles apart in the ditch. It's that time of year!

Neighbor just called and said they've been running like crazy all week. Right on time.
