Very nice buck. Your friend a bonehead all of the time?
Give him another couple years, if you can. If not and he's a regular that turns you on, kill him! Looks like a 3 yr old to me. He's probably gonna BLOW up at 4 and 5. Most crosses do. He has a good typical rack and a beautiful shape to his frame with lots of room to grow.

HF deer always tell off on themselves with those white prickly based horns. I see the mounts on the walls of stores in town. Takes me 1 second to call that out. If that was a free range wild deer every hick in Texas would shoot at it.

After years of debate among biologists about antler coloration, you've solved an age old puzzle. It's the height of fence that determines what color a whitetail's antlers are.

I've killed a bus load of free range bucks and have seen and passed up hundreds apon hundreds of bucks. The only time I see that flat white antler color with those real ruough bases is when it comes from high fences or up north of Texas. I have killed one light colored horned buck in Texas, but it had brown slick bases. Ive killed plenty of dark antlerer deer with rough bases. More often than not HF. deer carry strong northern genes. Throws a Texas hunter off to see such characteristics if he has been around alot of bucks. There are white horned deer in Texas, you just gotta know what your looking at. Have three taxidermist friends. I can guess every HF deer hanging in their shop. They just simply have that look.

I agree. It's northern/midwestern genetics crossed with native Texas deer that produces the majority of white-horned deer in most of Texas. Not the height of the fence. Just yanking your chain.
Seriously doubt you could tell the difference between a deer from our high fenced place versus a deer from our low fenced place in Webb Co.
