Help or Hurt?

Help or Hurt? - 11/22/16 04:55 AM

I own a small acre forest in east Texas. Since I'm a small guy, I am at the mercy of what is around me. There is a landowner right next to me that has a very large tract......in the thousands of acres. In the past, the big neighbor next door has hunted his land, but it has been all dense forest and river bottom. I enjoyed whatever spillover deer hunting I could get from his large tract.

This last summer the neighbor cleared a large area......I'd guess maybe 400 yards by 600 yards, maybe more. This clearing is 50 to 100 yards through the forest from my property line. They got started a little late, but they planted food plots and set up blinds.

My question is this: In the coming years, will this new tactic by my neighbor help or hurt the deer I see? Will a large cleared field with some food plots support more deer than dense east Texas forest?

Yup, deer come from all over to get food or water. You will have a nice trail through your land going to that big food plot.

I think your small acre land just turned into a honey hole up

Outstanding! I would also go talk with him to see if they are on Management plan and if so join him on it. He'd probably appreciate it!
