Experimenting with spooking deer.

Sitting in my bow stand the other evening and a nice 8 that I had been looking for came in, but to my dismay, his entire right side antler had been broken off right below the brow tine. Damn it. Anyhow, he hung around for about a half hour, until shooting light was done. Well, my cell phone helps me pass the time and I've always been paranoid about the brightness reflecting or shining and spooking a deer . So, I pulled my phone out and for 15 minutes or so, flashed it at this buck with different brightness settings. He never even looked up.

It's always the ones you don't want to take a shot at that don't spook. You could walk out in the field and they seem to watch and stay there. If it were your deer of a lifetime, just taking a deep breathe in the blind 175 yards away seems to set 'em off like a rocket. Just seems to work that way with me anyhow.

I mess with Deer a lot. I see what sounds spook them the most. What movements spook the. What smells. And of course all are different and then again alike in many ways.

We give deer too much credit I believe.

certain deer. but as soon as you let your guard down is when that ancient loppy eared doe busts you! the one that you never get a shot on but want to "harvest" worse than any other deer on the ranch.

If you are ready to leave and have a pull rope go ahead and lower your weapon. I have had multiple deer not necessarily spook but feel uncomfortable and leave when they see that gun or bow slightly swinging on that rope.

Just means it didn't scare him. My sister in law shot a spike last weekend with 10 other deer standing in various senderos and clearings. My brother was watching and said nothing ran off and most of the deer didn't even look up. No we do not shoot supresors or anything like that. From the logic of this you could infer that a gunshot at 75 yards doesn't spook deer.

Last year my brother did exactly what your taking about, had a 5 YO 9pt come in early and he was waiting for daylight texting me and the deer saw his phone light up in a box blind 100 yards away. The phone spooked the buck into the brush phone got put away and a few minutes later he returned and got shot.

Well, what are your findings? Not all of us have time to spook deer.

smell & movements, I have been busted by the slightest movement than any thing else

I've found that if I make a noise and the deer get spooked, you can "sometimes" make the same noise a few more times and they will go back to what they were doing. I stress the word sometimes lol
