Yep. Stag is what we call them. Damaged testicles not giving off enough testosterone to harden his antlers, and they don't drop off at end of year.

He's going for that natural, relaxed - look all teased out and frizzy. It's the new style...all the young bucks are doing it.

Yep, we call them Stags too. Quite a few of them around the llano area. Best eating whitetail there is. Since they don't breed all they do is get fat.

That's funny right there!
A guy I hunted with once shot one like this. Large non-typical frame, but the antler broke off in his hand when he went to move the buck. Same thing- "Had a wang but no nuts"

Almost looks like a cape buffalo with those bases coming together. 10:1 he has undescended testicles.

Stag or Cactus buck. Scientific name for the condition is "Hypogonadism." TPWD did a study on them back in the 60's.
Fairly common in parts of the Hill Co, got 4 or 5 on our place this year. They don't breed, but man can they burn some protein. Fatten up like a big ol' steer.
His momma laid down with an Auodad

Hunted Llano county for over 20 years. We took quite a few off of the lease. Our lease rules were one 8 pt or better as wide as their ears or wider - stag bucks didn't count as your 'good' buck. I have an 8 pt mounted skull cap that's completely in velvet with larger than expected bases. Shot him the week before Christmas one year. According to the GW there at the time (now the county sheriff I think), about 10 to up to 20% of the bucks in that area may have this each year. Some get over it on their own, others, like the one pictured, never do. Their antlers grow some mighty weird looking shapes and sizes.
Like others have said, these deer are the best eating one's out there. You will actually have marbled meat especially if you feed protein.
Bust him if you get the chance.

This stag was killed in 2010 or 2011 on a free range lease I was on back in 2012. That's not me in the pics...it was sent to me at the time by the lease manager.

My vote is an antlered doe. Could be wrong though
