223 for Whitetail

223 for Whitetail - 01/10/16 09:50 PM

Do you guys think a 223 is OK for whitetail at closer distances, say 150 yards and less? I hunt in Central Texas where shots are usually between 60 and 150 yards, and the deer are not large. I really like the 223, but have mixed feelings on the ethics for me to shoot such a small caliber for deer. Again, my dilemma over the ethics of it is for me. I'm not casting aspersions on others. Thanks!

I would think a .223 is big enough for central Texas. It's all about shot placement anyways.

Yep, that's about as much confirmation as I needed! Makes a great coyote round though.

It is beat to death every week on every hunting forum.
Just buy a used Rem 700 in 270 or 30-06 for $300 and get on with life
